vader help

im callin you out here, cuz you are the only person who responded to my last post about no fans, ac, or heat. i pulled the wires off of my starter that go from the battery to the starter and tested them and none of them have any volts. does that mean that all of the fusable links in it have burned up? i cant see why they would have all burned out at the same time. plz respond fast, cuz i dont have a car. thanks

Hmmn, my folks told me lot's of things as I grew up. Don't recall them swearing to/at me to make a point.

Ya know, I see you have over 800 posts, so I'll assume you've been to this board before.

Have you ever looked at the posts directed to one person?

My guess would be yes, then again I guess you must think you're special.

Hmmmm...
If this is a legit question...
1. If you have pulled the cables from the battery
(both cables) you are in a reasonable position to perform
resistance measurements. A multimeter is a suitable tool.

Resistance measurements on cables will yield something
around 0 ohms (unless you have excellent tools).

0 ohms indicates that there is a current path between the two
points.

Cables that are not attached to a power source are not
evaluated by measuring "volts".

A reasonable approach would be to restate your problem
and give a rough idea of your expertise...

No offense intended but I would suggest reading a paragraph
or two about...

Resistance (Ratio of voltage to current)

Current (Rate of electron flow )

Voltage ( potential )

Then you'll be in much better shape to ask questions...

urbman, i only pulled the cables off of the starter side leaving them connected to the battery and on the starter side i have no volts on them. i am assuming that this means the fusible link is blown. im not the best in the world when it comes to this, but shouldnt the wires have 12 volts going through them if everything is in correct working order.

8mike9, thats two useless posts contributing nothing to the topic, is that how you have gotten over 1500 posts?

damn shame i'm not vader i know what i'd tell you to do or look at. maybe the reason i and a lot of others never responded to your last thread was because we weren't here or vader already had it covered

Hmmm....
On an LO3...
The battery positive terminal is linked via a junction block
(upper left hand of the pic)
The black gizmos are fusable links...
pull the cable, both sides, use an ohm meter...

No, I've probably have 1400 usable posts, and a 100 or so for ding-a-lings.

You can figure out whether the post is usable, or for a ding-a-ling.

Ooohhhh, third post irrelevant to the topic "vader help".

Baawaahaa.

Kick the dog, fix your car, enjoy the weekend.

Hey, Mike,

You can close the throttle and coast now - I think he got your point the first time.

CK,

You didn't help by throwing out the "smart ***" label, either. That was a little like inviting another reply. I'll avoid my usual chapter on how this is a community board and that there is PM and email for personl messages. I've had plenty of posts on that in the past.

You should be thankful that Urbman was a gentleman about it. And Mike is O.K., but he's seen the same kinds of post in the past that would just sit there with no replies. In his own way, he was just warning you about the dangers of addressing the post to a specific person.

I've been a little bit of a "smart-***" at times, too. I've always maintained that I'd rather be a smart-*** than a dumb-***. Unfortunately, I don't always succeed at that.

Let's just leave this all behind us like a bad run at the track. You learn from the last one, but stage up and start all over again with what you've learned.

So, was it a link at the starter, power node, or something else?

I'm not Vader either but I'll take a charitable shot here...

With the wires off the starter pole, the only wire that will have voltage on it is the battery positive lead and then only if the battery ground wire is attached correctly. The other wires (fusible links) are there to pick up voltage from the battery positive lead, so with them all off the starter pole it's not happening.

Be careful having the batt pos lead loose with the battery "hot", if that wire touches a ground anywhere it will arc.

Next step for you is posting what problem you're troubleshooting.
