Am I crazy.. ?
I have concluded that I will be making a dual exhaust system for my p.o.s. 'bird (when the time/money comes).
My question is, because I've seen the question so many times about dual exhaust, would it be worth my time to offer others mufflers to do the same ?
I have a self made muffler now (pic attached) that is basically straight flow but is low (quite deep/bassy{sp?} at certain rpms) in tone until you get on it or reach about 3k rpm.
My plans are to make a similar 'muffler' that will fit in the back area of a 3rd gen w/o having to tilt it (fits w/in the 10" width area between the trunk well & outer part.. similar to an 94ish type vette muffler)
From what I see alot of the time is most people want the loudest, most testosterone driven muffler they can find... my question is.. if anyone is (seriously) interested.. I'll make a few mufflers (true dual intended) to sell. While true dual would be the intention, it could be adapted to the single exhaust system.
Would anyone be interested in something like this ?

And another..
keep in mind.. the welds on this were done with an arc welder (what a b*tch to keep for melting the perforated metal) and my intentions are packing the "muffler" with a stainless steel type steel wool (or fiberglass.. either doesn't burn)

Tas.. That's basically what I'm talking about. Those look to be Dynomax Magnum 'mufflers' if I'm not mistaken which run in the $50/ea. price range. While I'm not a total cheaparse, I do tend to be frugal when it comes to things that are made from metal because alot of times it's easier/cheaper/more fun for me to make it.
Another reason I'm not willing to pay for Dynomax (aside from the fact there's nothing to reproducing them) is I'm going to be getting a new pair of (most likely Hooker shorties because they are affordable) headers & I'd like to leave the smallest dent in my wallet I can to redo the exhaust they way I want it.
kfoley.. I don't have any convenient way of recording a sound clip of the temp muffler on my bird right now but, I'll see if I can do some wire splicing to run a mic from my computer to the garage. I'll see what I can do..
I don't have any idea of price (since I doubt the interest is really all that great to call around for metal prices) but, I'd assume they could be sold for around $20/ea (or a little over) since there's not tons of work involved, just bending, clamping & welding some pieces parts together.
I won't be disappointed if there is no interest, I just figured since I was going make a pair I'd ask others. Just another excuse to not work on my car I guess too

deadbird: If you could toss up some soundclips I'm sure you'd get a lot more resopnses

If I heard a sound clip I might be tempted. Although most of the time I bypass my muffler using the cut-out anyways.

Yea.. I know sound clips would help alot but, my computer is about 50' from my car which makes it a bit of a challenge to get the mic to reach the garage
. I know I could buy a cheapie jambox or something but, well, ok.. I am cheap
Hopefully, if no more crap happens around here (slight ant invasion in the house).. I'll be getting my doors finished and start on the exhaust next.
I'm sure alot of people know I've been messing with my car for it seems like forever but.. I'm working on it (slowly).
The car looks alot better with the GTA wheels back on it...
