its been done, plenty of times, but I've seen too many bad ones to ever want to have it done to my own ride.

Oh no, this question is back again. I saw the same question last night. Do a search next time.

Basically, it would be easier and cheaper to buy a t-top car.

you can get it done, but i would not recommend it..
it is very costly. so you should just buy a factory t-top car...

run a search on here, someone provided a site to see more indepth of the price and howto for this conversion..

If you mess up, you could always make it a convertible!

And if I had a maroon interior that would mean something. Would you prefer I have gray or black, oh wait, than I would be like everbody else in the world. I accually like the fact that people dont like red interiors (thant means there are not alot of them around and mine is differant). I like the fact that when you see my car, you know it's mine and not just another camaro.

Nice try. By the way my interior in fire red.

by the way every other thirdgen from the 80's has a "red" interior (why dont you post the production numbers instead of trying to state false facts)

Accually my car is a 91, and every other thirdgen from the 80's may have HAD a "red" but everbody hates that color so much they ripped it out for differant interior. Instead of me posting production numbers, how about you pool every person who own a third gen to see if they still have their orig interior.

my interior is i guess original with charcoal and black scheme going on...... (gray and black)

Jaws got an attitude with the owner of this thread and said "If you mess it up you can alwasy drive the factory t-top car you should have bought in the first place. "

Well I felt like i needed to let him know that HEY his car has a red interior........

Lets not talk about speed, cause i hear those 305 TBI (is it as auto to?) runs with the 2.8's

First of I didn't have an attitude with the t-top guy (just having some fun seeing as this topic comes up every week). And by the way my car is a 5-speed manual, with 3.23 gears, posi traction and rear disk brakes. I would like to take this moment to appoligize to the started of this thread for all of this, and to ImportsRsloths for having a TBI car with red interior. I quess the only thing ImportsRsloths has proven by any of this is that I have a TBI and a red interior, well played ol' chap. And also I never said my car was better (or faster) than anybody's. Your just upset that every smart a$$ comment you've made has made no sense.

Nice try though

So now that you lost the battle of the red interior, manual transmission, and rear gears, you've moved on to just ripping on how fast my car can go?? Good one.

First of all, why don't you say what you need to in one post instead of posting two posts right after eachother? There is an edit button you know?

And also, how come you always seem to think your opinion is right. You may not like red interiors, well tough ****. Its not your car, so don't worry about it. And I always head you raggin on V6 guys and 305TBI guys. You have a 305TPI, should I make fun of you cause my 350TPI is faster?

This site is sappose to be fun, sorry there are so many tight a$$es around here that have to turn every word around to mean something else. I know you may be new, but just try the search button next time and you will find all of you answers on this subject.

Not that I know of. I haven't done too much locally this year. Too many old timers that say our cars aren't old enough or worthy to be in a show here have kept me away. It gets frustrating going to shows and not have any chance of awards because my cars "too new". So screw 'em. I won't pay to be in their shows.

I am also moving to Orlando in 3 weeks, so a show is not on my list of to do's. If you want to meet up before I go, let me know. I'm always in your neighborhood. I'll even be there tomorrow!

Just for future reference... Check www.autoswalk.com for local shows in Minnesota. It details clubs, shows, and ongoing scheduled cruises. Check 'em out.

Just thought I'd point out that the red interior from the 80's is better known as "Porno Red"...

Maybe someone will laugh and the ugly argument will dissolve...

Having T - Tops put into a non T - Top car is not recomended. A lot of the conversions cost around $1500 done right, but then your car becomes weaker. Unfortunately its true that if you want T-Tops, it will be cheaper and safer to buy a T-Top car. I don't like T-Tops because of the bar down the middle, but if my car came with T-Tops I would not complain.

Nope, wouldnt do it. Makes the car structure weak. And for 1500 you could just get a car with the T-tops already there : D!

Correct me if i'm wrong but don't t-top cars have extra support somewhere due to the lack of a roof??

Actually its more comments like yours that make people not want to come back. Jawz was only making the point...hard as it may be for some to swallow...that a t-top conversion on a 3rd gen is too diffilcult/costly to justify...esp considering that if you mess up, you're screwed.

My point exactly. If someone could do a one piece targa top, that would justify the cost in my opinion, but you would at least need to have sub frame connectors, but it would probably still be kind of weak.

yeah i thought about that sometimes. it makes sense doesnt it? i wonder if a targa from a vette would fit or could be made to fit. i like the idea of a targa top better than t-tops anyway. oh well, somebody is bound to try it......

Its been done on a 4th Gen (a buddy of Madkilla's from the Orlando area)...it didn't look that bad. I may try it on a 3rd gen (not Redraif's). If you reinforced everything properly, all you would have to do is a little cutting/welding of the t-top frame and modify the weatherstrip, or use the header strip for a convertible. Remove the glass from the t-tops, install a large section of polycarbonate or acrylic/lexan, and a stiffening frame of some sort on the leading and trailing edges. The targa top would install just like the t-tops.

ASC did the Suntour Firebird several years ago (in High Performance Pontiac Magazine recently), but its wasn't a true targa...the top rode on rails, and slid back over the roof.

I remember that ASC TA. It was more like a very large sunroof that slid back on the rails. I would not mind having that either. I would rather have a large motorized sunroof than T-Tops. I just can't stand looking at that bar going down the center, especially if it doesn't have that overhead console.

Find a Company that installs them and will garantee you that they will not leak or they will fix it for free. I would never do it myself. LOL I could see some ******* over here in Texas with a hack saw cutting up the roof of his third gen in a crooked line.

<i><font color =blue>Hey cledus! I think I cut the dang roof to far aww **** Mamas going to give me a whoopen. Danngggg....

hey, i know this thread is not any of my business getting into, but i noticed all of you dawging eachothers ride, about how their interior is better or engine is better, but hey, a camaro is a camaro, they are all great cars, always will be, it doesnt matter how fast they go, because they look just as good going slow as they do going fast, just remember that, and be proud that you are driving a camaro,

I like your attitude. Everyone makes fun of my car for having a 2.8l and the fact that I plan on keeping it. I don't care if your car is faster and can travel the 1/4 mile 4 or 5 seconds faster. I use my thirdgen to get me places I need to go. I don't see anything wrong wanting to make my engine a little faster. I am not a speed freak so I am satisfied with a lower power level than most of you guys.

It doesn't matter what car you drive because there will always be someone that will be faster than you.

Anyways, back on the t-tops. If you get aftermarket t-tops, It would be hard to get replacements if something happened to one the tops, especially if the company that did it went out of buisness.
