After a couple of hours of pushing and shoving, we finally got the LT1 into my friends car.
Looks nice sitting in there too.

sweet *** man, lookin great, and good idea to jack up the rear end so its easier to get the engine in. i might have to save that one for the next engine drop.

We put the engine and tranny in at the same time, which wasn't as hard as some people said it would be.
Tranny tailshaft never even came close to the ground.
Hardest part was getting the engine mounts to go into the motor mounts.

I am opting for manual steering.
Today we will put my engine and tranny into the car and then I'll start wiring up Julians' LT1 and then mine. His is much easier since he has a custom harness and mine is a Caprice one that I need to modify.
I can't wait to hear the rumble from both cars. His car won't stand a chance against mine.

the harness came with the engine package from speartech.. I believe on its own they charge like 500 for it.. with the engine package I just told them what I was running and they custom programmed the pcm and gave me leads for the autometer gauges etc..

You will be an expert by then!
So what Hp are you looking at at the wheels? We were planning for 400 on my 82. Then Joe found an article in one of his mags the other day. Seems they did a very similar 383 LT1 set up to the one we are putting in the 82. Their cam is barely bigger then mine. They actually got 500+ on motor and 700+ with a 150 shot of nitrous. It was NX, so it was more like 180...they cool thing was the crank was nothing special...so I should really be putting down the hp when mine's done. We never thought I could be hitting the 500 mark. I can't wait!

Dropping the motor in is easy, it's just the wiring that is the hard part.

If I were a drug dealer, my car would be hooked up and running 2 years ago with all the bling bling that normal drug dealers flaunt.

My motor is a series of trades and hand me downs too. We are finally at the got to buy some stuff stage! Fun, fun...
Well on the hp #s I stated above...Joe said that was a carbed motor and the LT1 intake will be a bit more restrictive, so maybe not 500, but I should be b/w that and 450. Still thats close to 4x what my 87s motor makes! I'm gonna have to be careful the first time I get on it. I'm not going to know what to do with that power!

Sweet, didn't they have just a little more hp than the lt1's as well. Was it 15 or 20. But anyways that's good to know when the time comes for an engine to be put into my project.

Driveshafts are the same, so no change there.
Aftermarket speedo makes it easier.
LT1 bolts right in, T56 requires new crossmember.
LS1 requires special mounts.
PCM's will need to have VATS removed from the programming.

I'll put the cluster in tomorrow and take a bunch of pictures of the tranny cooler and all the other neat stuff that was put onto the car. It was 80 degrees and sunny yesterday, today was 50 and windy and now it's raining. I hate this Virginia weather.

I still need to snap shots of my engine. Been to lazy.
All the left over parts are for LT1 motors, so, since you can't use them, I'll just save them.

Yep it will look like a vette LT1, I have the fuel rail covers for it too but those won't go on until it has run for a bit and any fuel leak demons are exorcised..
It did start though.. 'bout jumped out of my shorts! I thought with all the wiring and the like it wouldn't fire up right away but it did.. with an open y-pipe.. Unfortunately the fuel connections at the filter leak so I had to order up a dedicated 6an filter for the braided lines.. won't be here till tuesday..
The gauge cluster went in today though.. when I was wiring up the flexalites Zepher was hooking in the harness.. More pics will be coming as soon as I get over there tomorrow.
Thanks for the support!

Looks excellent. I don't know if you got this far, but it may be better to put the battery on the drivers side(mine was originally on the passenger side) and now I have to figure out how I'm going ot hook up the MAF and an air filter. I still have the battery on the passenger side but I think it's going to have to be moved if I can't figure anything out.

Yep I am that far.. I decided to use a ram air hood and solve that problem with the airbox modded to hook up the reprogrammed LS6 maf I have sitting on the shelf.. thanks though! It will have a hack and slice job with the elbow upsidedown until the hood arrives..
