ok well i put in this *** forbiddin spacer and when i was tightening my passenger side fuel line, i snapped a peice of the throttle body off where the fuel line screws in, and now im screwed! is their like any bondo or welding crap i can use to fix it??

let this go down in history!

jb quick weld. or go junkyard huntin for a new throttle body. sorry im not to familiar with TBI, but is it possible to unscrew the part out with a pair of vise grips? that way you could just head over to the junkyard and get that specific part.

id only use the jbweld as a temp fix though.

 

getting a new, or used one would be the best way to go. if that isn't an option jb weld or something similar would be something to try.

 

I believe I'd just go to the junkyard and get another TB. It's not like they're hard to find or anything.

Here's the solution

 

The Holley unit is too much for a stock system, go to a junkyard or on ebay and you can find a used 305 TBI unit for like 20 bucks.

 

How did you snap that off? That should be a meaty place on the TBI. Do you have any pics by chance? I got a used TBI off ebay for 25 bucks a few years back.

 

what part was it?? was it on the base?? i'll sell you my old base give me 20 dollars and shipping and it's yours. i have some other parts let me know

 

i jb welded it and its holding for now, and then i went to the junkyard and found ONE tbi unit out of all the other v6 wrecked camaros/firebirds, and i yanked taht peice off, i will be cleaning it up and puttingit on my car in replace of my broken jb welded one.

I broke where the fuel line screws in, i guess i overtightened a little bit and a big chunk of the tbi broke off.. i will have pics real soon, my friend is being a bish about uploading them for me

Opps... NVM re-read the post. As long as about 2/3 of the threads are left on the pod and not broken off its ok for temperary use. Do get another pod, though.

 

I would never JB something fuel goes through. If it breaks while driving you will be getting yourself into a huge mess very fast. If you don't want to lite your car on fire buy a new TBI unit. Just my opinion.

 

I got off my lazy butt and got a spare pod out of the junk drawer. Looks like youll be incinerated in short order if you try to run that for any legnth of time. The fitting for the return line snapped off near the base of the threads and the only thing thats carrying the stresses is the jb weld. Let me reiterate, the only thing thats keeping the fuel line flare sealed against the pod is some epoxy with a bunch of metal fillings or whatever they stick in it. If it breaks off, itll spray fuel evereywhere as long as the engine keeps running. Get another one, dont risk life and limb trying to use that one.

 

Dimented's absolutely right.. because it's the return line post-regulator, it will not stop the car from running for one second. If you try to run it like that, you've got a VERY high probability of burning your car to the ground. Call a friend and get a ride to the junk yard and buy yourself a new injector pod. It's just not worth it to fiddle with that.

Also, mad props. I didn't know you could torque that fitting down hard enough to break it without stripping the threads

 

Yea that is a first for me as well. I have never seen that before. That must have been a casting that was packed by someone new.

 

actually thats not the return line, its the feed .line, the tbi is sitting upside down so i dont mess up the injectors.

and i did go to pick n pull and grab a replacement pod , after its all cleaned up im gonna install that

 

Its the smaller of the two, so its the return. Handy info to have if your installing a fp gauge or something. I ahve to admit though, that is a first. I wasnt aware taht they could snap off like that from overtightening

 

if its the return why was all the fuel coming out of it when i turned the ignition on?

 

Because it is returning to the tank. It has bypassed the regulator on on its way back. If it sucked in than that would be the feed line.

 

ok now im confused. that dont make sense, unless you mean sucking into the tbi?

 

Heres what happens. The fuel is pumped in under pressure from the tank through the larger 5/8 in. line. From there, it enters into the passage around the injectors. There is also a port above each of the injectors that lead to the regulator. When the pressure of the fuel exceeds the seat pressure of the spring, the fuel is exausted out through the regulator and through that smaller 3/8 in line.
