Confused about LT1 swap
I have a complete LT1/4L60-E setup from a 94 Z28 with the ECM and harness, and I'm confused about the wiring. The car it will be going into is a 92 RS w/v6. I have checked all of the posts and they are confusing to me. Some puts say to cut and splice, while others say to just connect it. Also I have the VATS from the 94 what do I need to do to bypass that. I had the idea of buying another VATS bypass from Mid-America. Would that work?
I guess what I'm trying to say is:HELLLLLP! LOL. I'm so confused!
What do I need to do to get the ECM hooked up to the 92 Dash?

it really isn't as bad as you think. There are a number of ways to do the swap, but all of them involve splicing wires into the original harness. you will need to connect the guage wires, a few power wires, fuel enable, etc. If you feel up to it, there are plenty of wiring diagrams available to determine which wires go where. The other way is to buy a harness such as a Painless Wiring harness that has everything labeled, but you will still have to cut and splice.
For VATS, by far the simplest way to bypass it is to have it turned off in the PCM itself.
If you're confused about something ask questions, thats what we're here for. There are a large number of people on this board that have accomplished this swap and most of us will be more than happy to answer your questions.

Thanks, I do have alot of questions. I know this sounds stupid but the 92 RS I'm getting for $700 has a v6/5speed. The LT1/4l60-E setup is from my wrecked 94. Can I just switch out the bell housings for the T5, or should I just get sheet metal and cover up the hole for the 5 speed. Will a auto transmission cable from a 3rd gen work with the 4L60-E? What Driveshaft do I use? 3rd gen or 4th gen? And lastly (for now,LOL) where do I get the diagrams?

I survived it, so anyone can do it.
What I did was took my time (5 months LOL)
First identified what connections had to be made and where using the wiring diagrams found on here. I made a cpuple of copies of the diagrams so I could write notes on them and such.
labeled each wire with its purpose and where it went. This really saved me once I had the harness in the car.
Some are really simple. Like 3 or 4 power wires, half constant, half switched. Speedo, temp, alt, oil pressure, etc
then there was the optional stuff... like ac, serial data for the aldl and the SES light
It isn't that bad, just don't be in a hurry and it'll turn out fine

To anybody that might be reading this thread. In a previous thread, swappers have mentioned connectors C105, C210, C220, and C230. where are these connetors. Are they connected to the ECM? Mine are labeled on my ECM the following way: Black, Red, Blue, and Gray. Are these the connectors everyone is talking. about? This is why I'm confused. The swapping of the Engine and tranny part is easiy, hell I can just about do it blindfolded, but dealing with wires, scares me.
I would still like a response anbout ECM reprogramming. I would send it to this one guy advertising on E-Bay for $50, but I'm kind of leary about that one. So I would rather try someone on 3rdgen.org. Because we are like one big happy family, I really need help on this one. Electrical work scares me. Anybody have any copies of Wiring diagrams for the 94 Camaro, and the 92 Camaro, so that way I can hook up the dash to the 94 LT1 ECM?

All those diagrams are in this forum. There are even pictures of the harness's with the connectors labeled, pinouts, etc
Lots of research has already been done.
I did a search for "LT1 wiring" in just the engine swap forum and start from there. I have a folder filled with posts, diagrams, tips and hints I found in many different threads so I could have a quick reference when I was sitting down with the harness.
It isn't that bad. The LT1 harness is basically a stand alone harness. It just needs power to work. You then hook up its outputs to the guages, fans and fuel pump. Then you're done
Yes, it really is that simple.
Good luck
