LoL, I know that feeling.

I once wore this stuipd Looney toons basketball shirt in Middle school that my parents got me from D.C. I liked it but I got laughed at school the first time I wore it. Next thing I know though, every kid in school has one. Hahah, go figure.

 

I don't start hating until they start talking bs. Then it's all downhill. But if they know their car is slow and just like the styling, I can respect that.

 

Yeah, I am the same way. Group of guys at the college I go to are like that. They hang out every Tuesday night in one of the parking lots. Basically all vinyl queens and neons. The first day I showed up they had a quick meeting.

The Leader: Ok guys, some rules, no loud music, no revving of the engines, no driving like an idiot and no burnouts

Another kid: Which one of us can do a burnout? hahaha

Some Other kid: Um, that guy could. As he points to me.

They are cool though and I don't mind hanging out with them cause they know whats fast and whats not. Some of them don't even like eachother because of the gay **** they like to put on their cars. One of them they call the Vinyl queen. The other 2 are called "Under construction" because both of the f-cking idiots put hoods and ground effects on there rides forgetting that it costs money to paint them too. So they have these green and black cars with a primer hood and white ground effects. And whats even funnier is that those 3 idoits always need a jump by the end of the night cause there battery runs out of juice from their neons or whatever else they have going while the car isn't running. :sillylol:

 

You know what....here's the thing about the ricers. A particular hobby has never really dominated pop culture quite like the import car scene does right now. Maybe the muscle cars of the sixties, but not with the impact that the cars today do. Think about what you do for fun. I play hockey and paintball, and of course...my car. I mean, it's not cool or uncool, it's just what I do. If you don't like hockey, well, you just don't play. If you don't like thirdgens, again, you just don't get into them. But with the import car scene, even if you're not into cars, it is the in thing, and you almost HAVE to be a part of it, to be in the "in" crowd. What that does is bring in all the posers, who do it just to be "cool". That takes away from the true car guys who have been lovin' the import scene all along. The guys who tune their engines, and do their own work...the guys like the fast and the furious portrayed. None of those cars were 17 second hack jobs. Unfortunately, alot of these posers have money, and there stuff is handed to them, and they don't learn respect for the hobby. It has nothing to do with that fact that the cars aren't domestic. Fourth gen's were made in canada, and most honda's are made in the US. It's the lack of respect. I've lost races to fords and imports, and afterwards, I've become friends with the drivers while looking at their cars and joking about the next race. At the same time, I've lost to thirdgens where the driver won't even make eye contact, and might give me the finger afterward. That certain attitude comes with immaturity and (not to **** of you younger guys), but not having respect for the heritage of the hobby we all love. I think we all to easily stereotype the "*****" image, and throw the term around, myself included, but it's the attitude, not the car that we all hate. Regardless of the car.

 

Some of my friends have the import trendy cars. Even though I don't like some of them, they are still fun to play with. It's all about having fun. Some of my friends laugh at me for having a stock looking, aged 80's car and I laugh at them for having an import with body kits and fart pipes. They like thier style and I like mine.



It is never the style that is the problem, it is the driver that talks BS all the time because they think they have a better ride than anyone else. Those people are the problems. I don't think my car is better than anyone elses'

 

Very well said. A point I've been trying to get to alot of people for a long time. Rice has more to do with attitude than looks. Taste in style aside. There is a difference between someone installing a wing to 'look better', and installing a wing to 'make them faster.'

 

I don't have any reason to have a fast car.....

I don't race....or go to the track, plus i have NO IDEA how to work on engines......so i spend money on other things for my car......

 

Sorry LT1guy, but why do you (or anyone else for that matter) get so upset when someone tells you or RedRAIF that what you've done to your cars looks like ****, or stupid, or ghetto, or whatever.

A psychologist would tell you, so I'll tell you to....... If you're so worried about other peoples opinions about your car(s) then your doing it for the wrong reason.

You shouldn't care one damn bit about what other people think, unless of course they're judging your car(s) in a car show. After all, isn't that the real reason you "customize" your car(s)? I know it is because that's all you two do is brag about the trophies you've won. Not that it's bad, but it's pretty obvious that's why you're in it.

Me, personally, would never show my car. Why? Because even if I spent $50K on doing what I want, I don't need a trophy to make ME like it. I don't feel I have to flash a trophy in someone's face when they say they think my car looks stupid. What good does it do? Do you think it'll change their opinion?

Guy 1..."Your car looks like ****."
Guy 2...."Yea? Well look at the trophy I won."
Guy 1...."Oh. Well in that case it looks good." While he's really thinking "I wonder who the dipsh!t is that gave him that trophy?"

Do what YOU like. Do what will make YOU happy. If you want to show it, show it. But let me ask you this. Are there times at shows when you don't even place? I'll bet there are. That's because someone that was judging your car doesn't like it. Do you go home crying if you don't place? I'll bet you don't.

SO WHY DO YOU BITCH WHEN PEOPLE HERE DON'T LIKE IT, AND VOICE THEIR OPINION HOWEVER THEY WANT?

Just take it with a grain of salt. Laugh, cry, frown, sulk or do whatever you want, but don't come back flamed when you're the one that opened their opinions by posting your car here.

He is my favorite character because he is so selfish and only cares about himself, and his own personal gain, which describes me more times than I care for.

I see. So its another, 'if you dont like it then dont post pics of your car' kinda guy. Like I said before, there is no problem with having an opinion about someones appearance mods. But it would be nice if people could give their opinions with some respect. People only get mad when they get disrespected.

When you signed up for this messageboard there was a little tidbit about not bashing or flaming other members. If you read the sticky at the top of this forum it says no bashings or flamming will be allowed.

So again, there is no problem with telling someone you dont like something, in fact, thats why we have these boards. Share information and opinions. But when it turns into bashing or flaming then there is a problem. I think people who are bashed have a right to get angry. While they still might not really care what you think, the fact that you disrespected them makes them angry. Would you really say that stuff to their face if you saw them in person? If not, then dont post it here.

P.S. Dont worry devianb, off-topic is not what gets ppl worked up. Its the negative bashing that other ppl do that gets ppl worked up.

IMO, if you get that upset then you've got emotional problems. I can see if someone says "You're a dipsh!t." Or "You're stupid." But to say "That looks stupid" or "Can it be any uglier.", those mean two totally different things.

All I'm saying is that if you post here, you're going to get negative response whether you like it or not. Why does it matter how it's expressed?

I do agree that labeling people isn't right, even though you just did it. That's what I consider disrespect. Not "You need to get your car painted a different color because purple makes it look like a girl's car."

I know you didn't say that, but I've heard it before. You know what my response is to anyone that says that to me is? "It's not your car though, is it?"

you have an opinion on Redraif an Lt1guy and other peoples cars who share that "look". You don't like it. Fair enough. However, you would not walk up to Shannon at a show and tell her that her "couldn't be any uglier". I know, I know, you'll tell us all on this board that you would say that to her in person, but we all know you wouldn't. That's not really a label, that's more of a fact.

You use big words like respect, but you give little thought to actaully respecting others. You mention that labeling you is disrespecting you. Did I disrespect you? ...maybe I did. You disrespected me. You post here(and I'm NOT quoting) and you give your harsh opinions, but that disrespects me, and a lot of people. Did you ever think of that? Maybe that is silly to you, but disrespect is not determined by you, it's by the people who you effect.

You mention that it doesn't matter how an opinion is expressed. Does that mean that if I say that "you're rims look a little tarnished, and that mother's makes an awesome polish" , that it's the same as saying "those rims look like crap, how could you drive around without polishing them". It's totally different.

If I disrespected you, I am sorry. I'm already more relaxed than when I started writing. The board is pretty much dictated by the majority, and there's just been a lot of flaming lately. It's CERTAINLY not all you...in fact, we know who flames and who doesn't, and my friend, I don't remember seeing your name before. It's just getting old, and a lot of good people are not coming around anymore and it's upsetting.

I like RedRaif's car. There is nothing on her car I can complain about. If I met Shannon or LT1guy at a car show, I would ask them how they did this and that. I like imports too, I just don't talk about it because that would be putting lighter fluid on a flame. As a matter fact, I like everyone's car here because they are all thirdgens. I just like some more than others.

That wasn't a joke. I have serious allergy problems when it gets cold. I sometimes get nose bleeds when I sneeze. It is still no excuse for my comment. I am not a mature person. I think I try to overprove a point and it ends up being stupid. I am 20 years old by the way, which may explain my behaviorial patterns.

I have to agree with Mark. And that's all I'm trying to say. And no, "CH" didn't misquote me. I never said that either. But he was labeling me, as well as assuming. And I'm not flamed at all. I'm just stating facts.

You're also assuming way too much. I never said anything bad about RadRAIF, nor LT1guy's car. Never have. There are some things about RedRAIF that I like a lot, and some I'd never do. Not because I think it's ugly or anything like that, it's just not what I would do to MY car.

And you don't know if I would or wouldn't say anything to her or him in person, and quite frankly, neither do I. I guess it all depends. You're assuming again.

I guess I may was well stop posting in the thread as well. Seems like the more I try to explain what I was originally trying to explain in the first place, the more it gets construed into something it wasn't.

Again those are hurtfully made remarks, & they are intended as such. Just cause you don't like it does not mean its dumb or stupid or trashed. I have a pretty thick skin or I would not still post, but there are people here who get hurt and won't even attempt things because some bully name calls (whether its directed to the car or not, it is personal) To me, calling me stupid or my car stupid is a fine line. I made the car what it is, its my vision...you attack it, you attack me!

What a psychologist would say about me...I'm too nice to some people! I assume that everyone is mature and can display tact like I strive to! Because again I don't get bothered that someone does not like it, I get bothered by their tone. How they express their dislike!

Joe and I post this not to brag...your assumption....but to shut the people up who say the car is a POS and a disgrace....blah, blah, blah. Heck 99% have never seen it in person!

I never modded my car for anyone but me. Its about what I wanted to do to make it look the way I wanted. Its a bonus that the car does well in shows. Shows are actaully less about mods and more about presentation and preparedness (clean). Another bonus is going to shows and having people comment on how hard I work on the car. Very few have any concept of what "I" go thru at a show to get the car ready. In Dayton, OH i was under the trailer my car was on repainting the underside where the painter had gotten some overspray on the undercarriage. Now that is not the crazy part... It was thunderstorming, pouring rain, I was sitting in a puddle with a flashlight in the middle of the night! Thats how dedicated "I" am!

For the most part, the car does win something. Sure there are shows I have not placed at & if you look on my web page I list every show and the results reguardless of how I do. Have I ever gotten upset about it...not really. I have when I know actual politics is involved. When $ dropping gets the trophy. I had enough of that showing horses as a kid.

What "Flames" me is people who can't show a monacrum of tact. If people talked to me or anyone else in person the way SOME (not pointing at anyone) do on this board there would be alot of bloody noses.

I b*tch because of the complete lack of reguard for the thread starter and the thread itself. "Flamers" jump on some picky thing you don't like that is irrelevant to the subject at hand and "flame".

AS I HAVE SAID BEFORE: My point is that I never put my car out in a thread and ask for anyone's opinion, its not important to me or what I do. So if bashing the car is not relevant, or I or others have not asked your opinion, go elsewhere. I post my car in an effort to help people or give them and idea of something different they can do if they choose. Then the war starts. See sadly for the people who want to know about how to do custom things, there are not many people left who can help. They get run off by bad attitudes or they are afraid to post. If you let the "flamers" think they can get away with it, like bullies they will keep it up.

And also a perfect example was stated above with the tarnished wheel comment, there is a tactful & a mean way to say the same thing. We are all on the same side here, its time we start acting like it.

 

I'm not worried about other people's opinions...if I was, I would have never posted here again after the first time the car was slammed here. I do take issue if someone calls the car a pos, hackjob, etc, though, because it isn't. If it WAS, it wouldn't have won nearly every major national event it is shown in. They don't give trophies to hackjobs at major events. The listing of trophies won is merely taking away some of the ammunition from the people out there who do nothing but criticize others; they can state opinions, sure, but they CAN"T legitimately call the car junk with the kind of record it has. Its no different than if someone called your car slow, and you responded with a 10 second timeslip. We aren't delusional, we don't think everybody likes it, nor do we WANT everybody to like it. Its not about approval, its not about trophies. We do it for fun, and for the interesting people we meet at shows, message boards, etc. If we wanted nothing but mass approval, we'd build a fart piped Honda and stick to import shows. We sure as hell wouldn't be building an F-body, ESPECIALLY not a third gen!. Is it an honor to win your class at the TA Nats? Yes. Was it worth all that time to build the car just to get a $25 piece of marble and plastic? No. But that was never the reason for it to begin with.

The problem I have is with people's attitude. You can state an opinion without being a complete *** about it. If you're walking down the street with your sister, and some guy walks up and says, "Your sister is uglier than dogsh*t. If I could makes myself puke on command, I'd puke all over her. I'm going to go home and gouge my eyes out now!", would you just turn the other cheek? No. You would retaliate. No one would ever attack someone like that in person...why do they think its ok on a message board? Did you ask the guy for his opinion? No. We didn't either. It escapes me why people like you get offended when we defend ourselves, but you see no problem with the attack that brought the response in the first place.



To sum it up for those of you who can't get it:

We don't care if you don't like the car-you are entitled to your opinion. Just don't be an *** about it, and we won't have a problem.

 

LT1Guy is redraif bodyguard. Whenever anyone has an opinion on her car he takes it as an attack. Its if only people who have good stuff to say about her car or other cars that look like hers (you know the group) can post only, anything else is a direct attack on her.

That's the part where you're wrong. Have I ever attacked anyone who said "I don't like x about that car", or "thats not for me", or "its your car, I don't have to like it", etc ? No. GET THIS THROUGH YOUR HEAD...I only have a problem with those who attack her personally, or make their comments in a rude manner. I'll never jump on anybody for a tactfully worded opinion, even if they hate the car. That's their right, and I don't care to change their OPINION. All we are asking for is common courtesy. I'm not going to jump into a post for the sole purpose of insulting you or your car, and I would expect the same treatment. if you don't like something , say so, but you can do that without being a jerk about it.

I still don't see the point of it though....you're asking people (people in general) to act mature and to respect each other. That's something that hasn't been achieved since Adam and Eve. I mean...every Miss America wishes for world peace. Just be happy you're still around to even have the ability to post stuff instead of hoping and pleading and argueing for the impossible.

Just be passive folks. There will always be somebody who disagrees with you. There will always be sombody who doesn't go past the maturity of a 12 year old. That is life. Just wear the shades (like the smily) and care less about what everyone else is doing/saying because you know you're the schiznitz...and that's all that counts.

 

About the ugly sister comment, you wouldn't ask someone "hey, how does my sister look" if she had one arm and 3 eyes would you? NO, that's the same as you askin what we think about Red's car. Not putting it down, because I have bit my tongue a lot on that car, just to be nice. But honestly, I'm sure there around hundreds of people who have kept quite about it, like me for one. And then there are numerous that haven't. Same as in the real world, you'll meet people that will lie to you just to save your feelings, then you get azzholes that speak their mind.

On this board, maybe so...but I defy you to find one post where either of us ASKED for the opinion? You won't find one. We know most people here have a very narrow view of the way a thirdgen should look...and that her car doesn't fit that view. We don't care about others' opinions...they don't affect what we choose to do to the car (its not for them anyway). I see a lot of things on this board that I personally don't like, but I'm not going to make a big deal about it; its not my place. Even if I did mention that I didn't like something, I wouldn't be an *** about it. THAT, is my point...whether we're talking her car, Rev's car, your car, whatever, you can express your opinion (even negative ones) without being an ***. You just did it, Mark...why can't everybody else?

 

to sum it up for you who cant get it:

we dont like redraifs car and you sure arent makin a good argument with your "we dont care if you dont like it" line. its obvious you do care with all the fuss you are making; you do have a problem.

I don't agree with alot of things people do to their cars on this board, but I also don't have to chime in on everythread and tell everyone. Some of you people need to chill out and keep your opinions to yourself.

I'm getting sick of constantly having to close threads because certain individuals keep ruining them.

Some people ask why the moderators don't reply to alot of posts on this board and this is exactly why.
