my power door locks are sticking, can anyone help???

The power door locks on my car have been wigging out on me for a while now.

If I press the unlock button when they are locked, they come out half way, but do not unlock, I have to press it rapidly several times for them to fully unlock IF they feel like it, the same goes for when they are unlocked and I want to lock them.

Has anyone run into this problem and been able to fix it, do they need some lubing up? please help.

Your power door lock actuator is probably toast.

If you can get your door panel off, try greasing up the rod. If that doesn't fix it, then it probably is the actuator.

I've gotten my door panels poped off, but how do I get the black part that runs along the top off?

push towards the window on it and pull up at the same time. if that doesn't work try using a flat head screw driver inbetween the top parts, but don't injure anything

I'm pretty sure the door panel slides off. Either forward or back, not up.

Nope, the black plastic piece that runs the length of the window, has to come off with the door panel as one piece. Just do what was mentioned above. Push the black piece towards the window and push up. Its hard to explain, but trust me. I've ruined one door panel by trying to take the plastic piece off by itself.

The panel is easier to remove with the window down. Push in on the plastic and pull upward (I'd try starting at the rear of the door). Along with cleaning with some WD-40, lube with some white grease--do the window tracks as well.

little tip, try not to use WD-40 and things that require or use GREASE

the wd-40 will eat it up and only lubricate for a while and you'll have to do this again

in the future, use a sprayable lithium grease can if possible

I wonder if Kragen or Autozone would carry this grease, because I have the same problem with my camaro. If they don't carry it, could I just first use wd-40 to clean the stuff up and then use some disc brake grease, cause that's all I got right now.--??? So as far as taking the door panels off, I first put window all the way down, then push the top plastic piece forward and pull up. Is this all that's too it? Aren't there like clips and stuff I will need to remove?

go around the edge of the door panel and pull out towards you and then pull the top off.

So I want to pull off on the perimeter of the door panels, then lift it from the top like explained earlier? What about the arm rests and door handle assembly, will this stuff need to come off first? -89IRO

Do as you said, but obviously the arm rests have to come off first and also the black trim piece around the door handle. Then do as said above.

Alright guys, I just got throught taking the arm rest off (pass. side.)- no problem. Then I took the torx screws off of the plastic plate that holds the handle around. I found it kind of cheesy how GM decided to make 3/4s of the screws out of plastic (that are there for show) and the rest out of steel. But anyways, got the screws out, but I can't seem to get the plastic piece off because it seem like the handle won't let me slide it out. Am I missing something here? -89IRO

It will fit through, you must get over the fear that it is going to break because it shouldn't . I took door panels off of 2 3rd gens last weekend and cleaned and lubed all of the pulleys, joints, actuators... etc. It will fit, you will just need to use a little force.

pull the hanlde out (as if you are opening the door from the inside) and then slide the trim piece forward (towards front of car)

O.K., now I'm really frustrated. I got the plastic piece off around the handle, but now I can't figure out why it is hanging up on the door lock itself...?? Then I was just curiouse so I tried pulling the panel at the bottom of the door, the corner came off, but now I can't put it back on, there is a plastic clip that goes into the card-board and there is no way (that I can see) to put it back on. My dad is taking the car to work tomorrow, so I had to put everything back together (plastic piece and arm rest.) I then called the stereo place to ask them if they would charge me to take off the door panel and lubricate the door locks and they said no. So I guess I'll just have them do it. I'm just kinda pissed off that I couldn't do it myself and that I think I screwed the bottom of the door panel up (though, it is hardly noticable.) -89IRO

I don't think that you screwed anything up...around the perimeter of the door, there are those white screws..and the head twists into the cardboard, and the the actual 'screw' part just pushes back into the hole. If the white plastic clip got stuck in the hole and didnt stay attached to the panel, carefully pry it away from the door with a small flathead screwdriver.

As far as the door lock, the lock itself (the little black piece with the orange sticker on it) pulls straight off of the rod or bar that moves the lock. To remove it, just pull straight towards you.

Well i know the info doesnt help now that someone else is going to do it, but if they dont, or if you ever need to get behind the door panel again, this will help.

Well this stereo place has made me a lot of good deals, though I am still going to shop around a little for my alarm. Anyways, they installed my mom's $800 system and my system in my camaro, and we don't have one complaint. So I think I can trust their work. Like I said though, I am going to give it another try. -89IRO
