Hey check out the poweradder boards, thats where all the big boys play I m not one yet but anyway yeah that's where your going see some custom intakes for more air flow, I was looking around there a couple of months ago and saw some guy's intake, looked alot like a LT1 kind of. So you might have better luck over there.

here is mine.

I wasn't going for anything pretty. Just some 3" PVC pipe.

A 90 degree, 45 degree and some straight pipe. And a can of black spraypaint.

You can get this stuff from Menards, Home Depo, Loews...whatever is near you. They also had 3" rubber pieces that could be used with MAF systems. You just gotta get creative.

Can you make a custom air intake for a TBI setup?????????????
Cuase all ive been seeing is just TPI cars that have a custom air intake on them. Is there anyway to improve airflow into our cars?
or should I just go buy a K&N or HOoker Air.

davecamaro: Don't the TBI guys get aircleaners like carbs and stuff? You could just get a big chrome aircleaner or a K&N filter with their X-Stream lid or something....

Try Ram Air. The make a system to fit 82-87 F-bodies. Maybe theu can work something out for your 88.

I'm in the process of doing this now. I read a few Camaro TPI Ram-Air how-to's on the web, then came up with my own materials. I wanted something a little more rigid than the flexible a/c tubing and larger than 4" PVC, so after looking at a few hardware stores and measuring a few things, I decided on 6" round aluminum HVAC elbows.

I cut holes in the "air dam" under the air filter housing and pulled out the plastic pieces that surrounded the fog lights. This gave me room to put the elbows in and they are the perfect height and come right up to the filter housing. I think from here I'm going to use aluminum tape to transition from the 6"round elbows to the 6.25" square filter housing.

I painted the elbows flat black so they aren't shiny when you look at the front of the car. And I bent the bottom opening of the elbows to be more rectangular shaped and fit in the fog light openings. I bought 6" clamps that I'm going to use to hold some kind of screen/chicken wire, that I'm going to find today, to keep rocks and stuff from entering the elbows. These will get painted flat black as well.

That's my plan, it seems like it will work great so far. Everything fits up well.

FYI: IIRC, i heard Mike Davis LOSt a couple HP on the dyno when comparing his custom cold air set-up to the stock camaro TPI 'snorkle'.

If an 11 second car trapping in the hundred teens made more power with the stock airbox, then MHO would be why waste the time and money to make something that won't even look as clean as stock.

BTW, the theory is, even though it doesn't 'look' like a great flowing piece, the stock airbox does provide a VERY SHORT and VERY STRAIGHT path into the TB. Both of which are at least as important as the size of the ducting.

Heres mine going on when I get the car back.

3" Mandrel bent alluminum

3" cone filter

3" Rubber Plumbing sleeve cut in 1/2
each 1/2 on one side of MAF sensor

the rubber throttle body thing and 7 hose clamps later I have a decent intake.
