New cable fixed the Megashifter "wont go into park" problem!
Last week, we were talking about the Megashifter, and I said that I thought my cable was worn out. The car would shift normally, but it wouldn't go into park. The shifter would go into park, but the car would roll- it'd take a few times of slamming the shifter forward to get the car to stop. Turns out the shift lever at the trans wasn't going all the way forward. So for a while, after I'd get the car to stop rolling, I'd hop out, reach under the car, and push the lever forward. I checked the alignment of the cable linkage, and the cable aligned for every gear- even park- but when the cable was connect to the trans, it couldn't get into park.
So I put a new cable on last week- and yep, it fixed it! I used B&M #80605, the exact same cable that comes with the shifter. I inspected the old cable when I had it off; no cracks, no splits, no burns, just some scratches in the sheath. So with the cable out of the car, I looped it in a circle, just like B&M's instructions say to do when installing it. I tried working the cable back and forth by hand- holy crap! I could barely move the thing!! I looped the new cable, and tried moving it- it moved nice and easy.
So I put the new cable in, following the same loop above the trans that the shifter's instructions say to do. I did the alignment of shift cable to trans shift lever, hooked 'em together with a new cotter pin, and tried shifting- 2 good things happened! 1, the shift lever on the trans now goes all the way to Park, and 2, the shifter moves so easily now! You still need to bang the lever a bit, but man, it's nothing like it used to be.
So if you're having trouble getting the car into park, think about replacing the shift cable. My shift cable was on for almost 5 years to the month. Even though the outer sheath wasn't cracked, I guess the inner lining wore out (or lost its lube).

Re: New cable fixed the Megashifter "wont go into park" problem!
Found this old thread.
I'm having major issues with my shift cable. I've had the engine and trans out for 5 months now and everything's now together except I can't adjust the shift cable. It only comes out of the sheath about 1 inch. It comes out nowhere near enough to put the car in park or even reverse. Drive would even be iffy.
I see in the original post something about looping it. Could someone elaborate on this?
Do I need a new cable or could it be run incorrectly?

Didn't realise their was a reply. Vipklr - it comes out the tunnel and makes a loop round. I can't describe it well at the moment, but if necessary I could get you a picture of mine next week. Another thing to check is the length of your existing cable, their are several lengths available.
Most of the problems with these shifters are due to incorrect cable positioning, cable lengths, cable adjustments or otherwise incorrect installations.
If you need anything specific you can't find by searching then feel free to email or PM me.
Good luck with things.

I ended up replacing the cable. Must have been fudged up inside cause I saw absolutely nothing wrong with it yet it didn't move nearly as much as the new one.
