Urgent, I need HELP!!
Ok, well took the car to the track tonite.
On a G-Tech before cam/intake/gears/and cat-back ran a 15.41 @ 92mph
"" after gears/cat-back ran a 15.32 @ 95 mph all on G-Tech with a badly shifting tranny.
Took the car to the track finally. Hopin for low 14s.
First run with babyin the throttle off the line and engine temp at 225* (yikes) I ran the following
also the tranny shifts perfect now
60' 2.309
1/8 10.460
1/4 16.277
mph 84.91
2nd run, WOT off the line and engine temp at 180* ran the following
60' 2.247
1/8 9.958
1/4 15.491
mph 89.37
The weather out was like 65* or so with relatively low humidity.
WTF is wrong with my car, I just added a Comp 268XE cam .477/.480 lift and Stealth intake.
Think the carb could be that out of tune now, I know I need to check the timing (I think I might be runnin a bit lean, since the car is heatin up so much).
I'm runnin a 160* stat with an aluminum radiator, and it got up to 225* on my first run.
Also, 2 of my plug wires might need to be changed ( i threw them on since 2 of the old ones were burnt, and the 2 I put on are kind of old).
So, please help me, my brother is ready to buy me a new carb, he thinks I should be runnin high 13s at least.
Oh, yeah, and when the car got up to around 220* it was hard to start.

One other thing, I have spray paint on almost all my plugs like where the wire hooks too. Think this is hurtin, I've heard since there is no lead in paint anymore, it shouldn't.

Plus, besides needing to get a Holley..you just listed about 5 things that are hurting you. You're running too hot, your plugs have paint on the terminals....your wires are old/possibly bad, you think it might be lean, and you don't know what your timing is. Start fixing all the things you do know before you start begging for URGENT answers about WTF is wrong.
BTW...lead is a conductor. if the paint was lead...that would be better...not worse.

Only if the terminals were the only things painted. Otherwise it would short them out by creating a path over the porcelain insulator to the block.
Just put new ones in or strip the old ones if they are some high dollar plugs.

Mark, You just installed a new cam and you dont know if the timing is set right? What is up with that? Start fixing all the possible problems like jester said. You should be running 13's. Hell your motor is clean enough to run 13's without fuel!

Timing has a huuuuge impact on engine performance. When I swapped on my Stealth Ram last month I bumped the dist while tightening it down or something, knocked the timing back to 4deg BTDC instead of the 10deg BTDC my PROM is set for.
I took it for a test drive and the gas pedal was like a wet sponge...mash the gas and blah. Re-checked the timing after some troubleshooting, saw the error, corrected it, and bingo it's like a whole new engine.
Whip out your timing light and get to work.
