Door lock likes to fight me!

Hey guys having a problem with my door locksl lately. The driver door IF (big IF) I can get my key in I cant turn the lock at all, cant turn it to unlock it and cant turn it to lock. Now just to get the key in is a struggle but to get it out is just as bad. The passenger side do is giving me some problems too. I cant get the key in..with some force..the lock turns fine...but pulling it out I really have to pull and wiggle it. Any one got any ideas? I had it so bad one day..I had to go through the trunk.!!!!!

Not to perhaps state the obvious, but have you tried spraying a little silicone into the cylinder then working it?

Otherwise, you might just have worn bars or springs in the lock. Gotta get new locks. That's a pita because you usually want all of them to match so you have to buy them in a set (even the storage compartment(s) if you have that option).

Buy graphite. Its a powder that comes in a tube. Squirt some in there, that may loosen it up a bit. that stuff usually works pretty well.

Install a keyless entry system and you won't have to fight with the door lock cylinders anymore.

A thirdgen car alarm, remotestart, and remote keyless entry install guide is avaliable here:

The lock on my pass side was frozen. Replacement was necessary. Since, I've used Lock-Ease.

I second the keyless entry. Didn't realize just how great it is!

My old alarm didn't actuate the locks, so I still had to use the key. It always messed with passengers when I'd disable the alarm and they try to open the door. I'm like, I still gotta use a key..

baldz,

What you describe is a common problem with our cars. Cleaning then lubing with white grease will cure the problem. Do the window tracks as well. Also, you might check the following thread:

I have the same problem, I could not turn the locks with both hands on the key. I bought a whole new set of locks ($160) for the car to put in which I spent some of today doing. Its not the locks themselves I think that goes bad, at least mine when I took them out worked just as fine as the new locks did in my hand.

I think its actually the lock part in the latch that goes bad. On mine theres about 2" of total travel, but only maybe 1/4" at most on each end actually locks and unlocks the door. I caked as much grease as I could into the latch assembly today and it definately made a difference. I can at least lock/unlock the door with 1 hand now, but its still harder than Id like.
