couple a carb questions.

I've got all my smog disconnected and out along with the A/C that would add what like 30 to 50 hp correct? and second...all them darn vac lines and the charchoal canister.....could I take and remove the charcoal can......I mean you see the v8's without um....I plan on running about 200hp at least out the beast.

30-50 hp!!!

I could be wrong but you would be luckey if you see 10 hp increase. Next removing the vaccum lines does work, but it can be hell to get it to idle right, and time correctly without them there.

Wait for some carb guru's. I am sure if you wanted to put a lot of money into your car you could make it to 200hp. But its all on how much you want to spend to get there.

You'll need this, now.
Even back in the 60's
removing smog hoses increases 50-60HP?
Must be some real good $hit over there my friend.

I'm runing a E2S carb on this engine, the E2SE carb that comes on '84 Fbodys has wires coming out of it that go to the computer. If you loose the signal from the computer, it goes into RICH mode. You can find a E2S on pre 86 - Blazers, S10, GMC S15 trucks ( along with a Vaccum Adv. Distrubitor).

My E2S carb - runs rich and I haven't found any way to lean it out. I have heard that there is a Carter carb that can be made to work but I haven't been able to get a number.

On the BASE in the FRONT are the plugs & screws for adjustment.
Ya need a special scewdriver to make that adjustment, it has a "D" shaped tip.
I found one & used it in a "pre smog test" situation & it worked great.
I was able fine tune the carb just right by this "smog set up scope".
Hope this is a clue.

KID85 - I've tried ajusting those screws - my step-dad (who's been a mechanic longer than I've been alive) has tried, no go. Ive tried two diffrent carbs - with fresh rebuilds - no go. NOW, this this is the post 86 engine - it has the large valves & the more agressive cam. But I would think, that would make it run leaner not richer. People other than me, have said that this E2S / E carb is a P.O.S. I'm looking for another carb.

CC_Hotrod - You'll never get that under the hood of a 'Bird (of course you can change the element).

84brokenheart - Here is a shot of my homemade air cleaner - Its the bottom of a truck air-filter - cut & brazed to a 9in. pie-pan. (pie R round - carburator R square). The air-cleaner off the truck has a metal ring inside - use it for a guide. Note that the square part is off center.
84brokenheart- Before you put very much money into that old engine - you ought to think about swapping it for a good used 3.4. It will bolt right up and give you the H.P. your talking about.
Someone - ( project85 ?) did one ( with carb) a while back. Think about it before you spend a lot of money on a tired engine.

I figured that he would change the element to fit his application. The air cleaner base is made from an air cleaner lid with a metal square piece welded onto it with a matching lid. I orginally made it to use with this hood that I had on my Camaro.

The charcoal can doesn't cost you any horsepower... leave it.

I can't offer much more than what I tossed out.
I am unaware of ANY OTHER carb that will fit this GM intake manifold.
Yes there's that Edelbrock thing.
BUT the 2 bbl intake set up is almost identical to what GM produced (the intake base is slightly higher).
It is the interchangable set up & yes ya can slip on the 390CFM 4 bbl (that costs like $600!).
I have dne a 3.4 under the carb, also.
Time prohibits me finishing this project right now.
BUMMED, I can feel the 3.4 torque simmering to get unleashed.
That's a 1995 Camaro 3.4 under the my 1985 S-10 stuff

right but the holley 350 cfm carb with the square bolt pattern could fit the stock intake right? it is also smaller in size in comparison to stock with a rund top. which being a holley it should be adjustable too right? and back to the charcoal can....the reason I want to lose it is for the even look and less clutter.....I mean the batterys already back in the hatch/trunk....I should get some pics to post...

84brokenheart - "it's got a *** rebuild on it already " - Oops! my mistake, I'm a strong suporter of the 2.8. I noticed a lot less dissent when it looked like gas was going to $5 a gal (US). I've got an extra stock manifold off an old engine - I may try some carb bolt patterns on it , get the carb set-up working then transfer it to the engine. Have you still got the heater grid under your Carb. (thing w/ large green wires comming out) ? Unless you live up north, I'd loose the grid - I've tried it with it in and with it out - more power with it out.

CC_HotRod, Who-o-o, Dam-it-Boy! (the car is nice too.)

Ked85, A guy on one of the truck boards said somthing about a Carter carb, that he made fit, by rerouting the throttle cable and stuff - but I didn't get a number or what it's off of.
