car missing, help please...

my car is missing REALLY bad. i am going to look at the cap and rotor and change the fuel filter saturday. i dont think that any of those are the problem though. its weird, it seems to miss the worst after i have 100 miles on a new tank of gas. in other words, every time the odometer is near 100 miles the missing seems to get worse. any ideas?

thanks

Bad gas/water in the tank. Try a bottle or 2 of STP gas treatment.

actually a couple of weeks ago it was doing this same thing, i ran 4 bottles of stp through it and it eventually went away. it ran fine for 3 or 4 tanks of gas, then all of the sudden, i was sitting at a stop light and it began again.

If you use the same gas station for each fill up...stop. If you use several different stations, look at the filler neck at the top of the tank, it may be cracked and letting water in when it rains.

thanks for the compliment, does anyone know how to check the injectors to see which one(s) is bad?

Look in a fuel injection manual for the "Injector Balance Check" This is how you pinpoint which injectors, but honestly, if a few are bad you'd do better to replace the whole set.

Disconnect the harness from them and put an ohm meter across the pins on the injector.

Nope, key off, pull all the connectors and put the ohm meter across each of the injector's terminals. If you are reading .001 ohms, then its time for a new set of injectors.

I would look at the gas in the tank, if it gets worse as you approach 1/2 tank it really sounds like bad gas. I had the same thing once, took 2 bottles of STP and a top off of premium gas to get it running right again. Also the coupler/pulsator between the pump and fuel tube in the tank might be split and as you get lower on fuel more of the pump's discharge is spit back into the tank instead of going to the engine.

i had this same problem about a month or so ago, it took 4 tanks of premium with stp in each one to fix it, all of the sudden the other day i was driving and it started again. if it was the pulsator thing, wouldnt it lower the fuel pressure? the fuel pressure is at 44 psi which is where it was before the problem began

The pressure of the surrounding fuel in the tank helps to keep the split in the hose closed, as the level in the tank drops there is less pressure acting on the outside of the hose and more fuel from the pump can escape.

i also realised just a little while ago that it deffinatly only happens once the engine warms up. which then reminded me that my air lines(where they come off the header) are just sitting there open because i broke the check valve. do you think this could be the problem? regardless im going to plug them tom. thanks again for the help.
