Installed some Saturn power window switches
Installed some Saturn power window switches
Well I got my 4th gen console installed and I managed to destroy one of my window switch upon removal. Eh... whatever.
So I went to the junkyard and found a two door 90-sh Saturn. I took the switches out and low and behold they plug right in!
Buuuuuut, the nice feature is... the driver's side switch has a little LED in it so you can see it at night, and it has the very nice "auto down" feature !!!
All of this for a measly dollar ? Hell yeah it's worth it! Pics coming soon :P

It sounds like a very good idea. So the switch lights up, it has the express down and it plugs right in! What was the year and model. great find for a buck.

Why not then try and find two drivers side switches to have both front windows have the express down feature? I had a car like this and it was a fantastic idea. I'll have to take a ride and see if I can find some as well.

thats what im doing.
that way, i can start the car, tap the switches, and AS THE WINDOWS ARE GOING DOWN, release the top and drop the top on the vert.... it would save me a decient amount of time... even good 3rdgen windows are SLOW..

just a couple questions....
-what do these power window switches look like?
-do they clip into the same wiring harness thats on the thirdgen, or do you need a fourth gen wireing harness?
-can the driver side switch be used for the passenger as well?
thanx for any help

What would be even cooler than that is if you could get some auto down switches that go in a Bonneville (92 or later). They are a LOT smaller than the regular thirdgen switches, and would be easier to mount on the 4th gen console. I'm sure you could wire it up somehow! Matt

Does anyone know how the express feature actually works? I would've thought that it would need different motors as well. The regular switch is either an open circuit or passing +12v (give or take) through to the motor. How would these Saturn switches supply more than that without a fancy (and probably fairly stout) step-up transformer circuit? Unless that little PCB is bigger than I thought...
well not everyone has a digital camera or a scanner. I dont have either.. .so sorry. When I can steal/beg/borrow one I will take pics. Basically they look like the ones you see on that Ebay auction, but I unscrewed the two buttons from the main rectangular bezel and used JUST them, not the whole thing. Of course this wouldnt look too good in a stock thirdgen, unless you covered up the original holes and cut another two smaller ones for the saturn switches to go in.
Here's a diagram for how to hook up the saturn switches.
All the colored dashes are actual spade connectors on the bottom of the switches. Using a diagram from an fbody all you have to do is run wires between the new switch and the plugs on the harness that plugged into the old switches. A total of 6 wires.

what color is the LED and any idea how difficult it would be to remove the express down feature? My dad's trucks and my mom's car has it and i can't freakin stand it.
Why the hell can't you frikin stand it ? Don't push the button far enough to activate it and it'll work just like your stock switches. Push down further then it gets activated. Pretty simple and smart if u ask me....
The led is orange and I'm sure it can be swapped out.

I think the orange led would be kinda nice, at least for a firebird. The dash lights are orange so they'd match, I haven't a clue what color the dash lights are in camaros, so who knows

Great idea! I've had installing new power windows on my list for awhile now, mine are so bloody slow it's ridiculous. It seems like it takes at least thirty seconds for them to roll all the way up!

I didn't like the thought of putting pw switches in the ashtray so I got some from a contour and put them in the sides of my console. They have a (green) LED in them that lights the arrows with ignition power. I'm not so lazy that I have to have an automatic up/down feature so that was irrelevant to my search for a 'better' pw switch.

bah, i dont think its lazyness.... you can tap the switch and continue driving without having to use a hand on the switch the whole time..... also, it lets me tap the switches and have the windows move as im dropping the top... thats why i want them anyhoo...

(j/k with ya
)I'd like to just have a switch to hold down to operate the pass side window in my camaro (no pwr windows can suck at times). Leaning over the console to roll down a window bites.
Anyways, my comment wasn't aimed at anyone or the idea, I just find it a useless feature (personally), yet neat toy if you like that stuff, in a car with 2 windows (such as mine).
T_A_88.. They came from the junkyard and were out of a Ford Contour. $1/ea.

the center console needs a full size switch.
most new cars are alot smaller then that.
