I'm currently looking for one of the MSE rear wings...if anyone has or knows where I can get one, please shoot me a PM. If theres enough interest, I might even be able to get it repro'd.

Your chances of finding a Mecham wing are very slim. One guy said his friend is making one himself, but I haven't heard from him in sometime. I know 2 ppl with an MSE for sale if interested.

I've always thought the Macho/Mecham cars lacked one thing in their styling and graphics.... good taste...
the one posted here would be nice except for that wing looks like it was an afterthough and rushed onto the car...

Dennis Mecham used this wing around the road courses because of its downforce and little drag. Then he stuck it onto the street cars.

The weird thing about this spoiler is that it doesn't look very good on light colored cars, but looks great on dark colored ones. At least no one can call it ****, since its the most functional spoiler ever built for third gens (more downforce than the Aerowings). I can see the Saleen influence (or that Saleen was influenced by it); I had thought about modifying a Saleen type spoiler to make a copy of this one if I can't find an original.

If you look very closely, Pontiac used the same basic shape for the 85-90 aerowing.
MECHAM cars look really cheesy, in my opinion. I have also heard their fiberglass parts have horrible fit and need lots of prep.

I consider my self lucky I have an MSE spoiler on my 84.
It would take a lot of money to get me to sell it...even though I only paid $40 for it..

I'm not sure if this is the right spoiler, it doesn't look the same as the race car photo. But it will not work with my 3rd eye brake light, so anyone that wants to make an offer, let me know...

thats not a mecham wing, thats something similar but its not it. I can say if that spoiler was made , i would buy it. I really love the mecham wing. I think it would look so awesome on my trans am .

the thing is, is the patent on that spoiler out? if not then we cant make an EXACT copy of it. There will have to a be a tiny difference for it to be legal. I'm guessing that would clasify as a patentable thing, not a copyrighted thing. I hope so.
I just sent an e-mail to mechamperformance.com, I believe this is the contact we would have to go through to get one. here is a copy of my e-mail "Hello,
My name is Mark and I am interested in purchasing a spoiler for my 86 pontiac trans-am but do not see one listed for sale. I like the look and design of the spoiler used on the 1982 SCCA trans-am and would like to purchase one. Please consider offering the 1982 MSE style spoiler. There are many other people interested in purchasing a spoiler like this. Many of these potential customers have posted messages at car club websites discussing and requesting this part. I am a member of one of these websites at www.thirdgen.org. All 29,825 members are enthusiasts of the car this spoiler was designed for and could be potential customers of this product. If you do not have any available I could try and locate an original that you could possibly duplicate.
Sincerely,
Mark"
I will let everyone know what response I get. I would still like to see if we can get a reproduction made if they are not able to help.
This should help help end some of the talk and get 'er done.

The 85 - 90 aero-wing was patterned after the Mecham wing and I believe Mecham did the design work, but I'm not sure on that. If you think the MSE is ugly and gaudy look at a Macho Trans-Am.
Most patents are only good for 10 years unless a company petitions for an extension usually claiming they have not recovered their initial investment. So, I think your safe as long as you don't have any trademark infringements.
Good luck to you guys that want one.

I like everything about it except for that spoiler... I agree that it looks like a last-minute thing. That car has got to be worth more than 13 g's isn't it??? especially w/only 8700 miles
