WINALDL not installing on laptop

So, I'm totally new to ECM tuning, and I'm trying to get WINALDL set up on my laptop. I just bought an IBM Thinkpad 760EL for like 50 bucks. I installed WIN95 OS.

Then I downloaded WINALDL and tried to install it but it throws an error while installing. "LoadLibrary (C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\MSFLXGRD.OCX) failed. GetLastError returns 0x0000001f." Then it finishes installing. When I try to run WINALDL, it errors " A required .DLL file, OLEPRO32.DLL was not found." I tried copying that .DLL over from my XP machine, but I still get another error and it won't run. I can't uninstall WINALDL, either. I searched to boards, but didn't find people having problems installing WINALDL on WIN95.

Has anyone had any similar problems? Do you guys have any ideas to get it installed and running? Is anyone using WINALDL with the 760EL laptop?

Thanks for your help. I'm really stuck and don't know what to do next. - Jake Deeds

You need an updated OLE. Try running Win 95B or Win 98, this ought to fix it.

Rippin - I got the Thinkpad from the company I work for. They upgraded to newer laptops and sold the old ones to us pretty cheap. It doesn't have a cd-rom drive, just a floppy. I have WINXP but can't install it.

Morley - I'll see if I can come up with a copy of WIN98 or WIN95B. I wondered if that might not be the problem. Thanks for the input; I'll let you know if it works.

I had this problem on both of my laptops one running 98se and the other 95 . I tried copying this to and from a flopy and it would not work on either . Kinda like all of the files didn't copy to the floppy, realy strange.
The way that I fixed this was , on the 98 machine- it was networked with my desktop and I installed it on my laptop from it's original location on my desktop. Well I didn't have that option on my 95 machine so I used hyperterminal and a null modem cable to my com port, uploaded the zip to my laptop unzipped it into it's own directory and installed it . Maybe there are more steps to this than there has to be , but it worked. The problem is like it needs a dll from the source code or something.

I got WINALDL installed today, and I wanted to post the solution to my problem in case someone else has this problem in the future. Basically, I did exactly what 18436572 did. I installed WIN98 (not SE), and linked to my desktop computer with a parallel port file transfer cable. Then I installed winaldl over the network onto the laptop. This worked for me. The hardest part was installing WIN98 on the laptop since it doesn't have a cd-rom drive.

regsvr32

i'm not sure if this'll work or not, but it's worth a shot...
after you copy that dll over to the correct place that the program is looking for it, it may not register itself, which is why it may or maynot be finding it.

right click on the dll, go to open/open with/-browse/other-c:\windows(winnt)\system32\regsvr32.exe
open the dll with this file and it should register itself. the correct steps to open it with this file may vary depending on OS, but you should get the jist of it. maybe that'll work...mabe not. but it's worth a shot.
