9-bolt girdle cover
9-bolt girdle cover
Today I called TA performance and asked about a girdle cover for the GM 9-bolt http://www.TAperformance.com/tagirdle.htm . I spoke with Dave. He said they have had a lot of interest in this product lately with little in the past. He also said this rear end is popular in Australia and will be used in the new GTO. If there is enough interest, TA may have them ready by spring. If you live near Scottsdale, AZ, they are looking for a 9 bolt to use as a pattern. Perhaps you could loan them a spare, if you have one, and get the cover for free. The price should be between $150-$200. Please call them and tell them you want one. Their # is 480-922-6807.
I know the guy at www.9bolt.com says he will have this product soon, but from what I’ve seen, this project is dragging along for him. It may still be quite a while before he has them. I really feel this is a good addition to the 9-bolt, and TA performance is the best option. Their Ford 8.8 girdle is a very popular addition to many Mustangs. Please call so we can get a cover in the near future.
Thank You

I'd do it but I don't have a spare, I just have the one on my car.

Gus I don't know if you seen my post but I've had a list going for a while on this. If you're serious about buying one, you can get on it here:
https://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/sho...hreadid=214338
As you can see.....there are many people who want one. And that's not including all the 89 Turbo TA guys who refuse to post here.
If they can get a donor rear....this thing is a go.
I have a gp lined up with a board sponsor, but he wishes to remain anonymous until TA gets a rear and can give him a definate cost figure.
Also in the post it mentions about the donor 9 bolt. I have some pretty good leads on some locally...if you like you may join the list of other generous people who are willing to go in with me on buying one and shipping it to TA.

I was waiting on one so i could take my rear end back out and totally redo it with the pbr's and put it back in with my spohn lca's and panhard bar plus the relocation brackets. I just wanted to do it all at once plus i was gonna put some royal purple gear lube in it.

I have a extra rear but, I really don't want to cut it up and send it unless I can get one heck of a deal on the cover. not tring to sound like I want it for free but, I figure I could fix this other rear and have a spare. I have been waiting for some one to chime in with a real messed up one. but, no one yet

I agree, butchering a 3 series rear would be unwise.
I just hope that somebody who has a spare 2 series rear laying around realizes that it's not worth anything other than the axles as spares and the pbr brakes if it's got them (which can be removed and sold or used on something else). And if someone's got a 2.77 or 3.08 one that's drum brake or even worse....an open carrier, they've got something that is of no real value to anyone unless they plan on conning somebody into buying it which is real uncool. It is generally pointless in most cases to try and build a 2 series rear when I see 3 series disc rears (often pbr ones) going for $300-$400 on the boards and commonly cheaper in yards or pick a parts. With what someone would have in buying a posi....it's gonna be close with what the rear would cost and a set of shims to refresh the posi.

The local Pick-N-Pull has about 25 Thirdgens. I can get complete rears for about $125. What cars are most likely to have them and how do I tell for sure it is a 9-bolt?
Another option may be Dennis from the Chicago forum here. I don't know his screen name, but he is local to me and parts out lots of thirdgens. I can see if he has a bent or otherwise usless 9 bolt he can part with.
