MAC SFC Group Purchase
MAC SFC Group Purchase
I just got off the phone. Here's the deal they offered:
Discounted from the original price of $135+shipping the GP price will be $114.95 plus shipping and handling which he said normally runs $12-16. We need a 6 person minimum to get this going.
IF you want a set, post up here.
To order you'll need to call 847-891-6609 and ask to talk to Mike at extension 113. The part number is Mac-4892 86-92 Fbody SFC's. They're powdercoated black, basically the same design as Alston, but these are weld in only, not bolt on. They will work with perimeter style such as Spohn's.
http://www.macperformance.com/store/...Product_ID=434
Tell them it's for the thirdgen group purchase. When they get 6 orders together, that's when they'll ship, and then run the same price for a few weeks afterwards for the GP (didn't ask how long).
I plan on getting a set towards the first of Feb, so I'll be number 1.
Edit: Here's a picture of where the Alston's and Mac's mount. The boxy tubes on the outside are perimeter style SFC's (the ones in the picture are the old Spohn's. They're now tubular.)

This is probably a really dumb question, but will these work on a convertible? I assume it does since it's in the convertible section, but since I've been looking at SFC, I'm constantly seeing convertibles requiring a different/unique part.

only the type that are like the spohns in the attatched picture above won't work with convertibles, because convertibles have a reinforcement in that area. Spohn does make a similar style to the ones posted, but they are clearanced for that reinforcement.

the spohn SFCs get in the way of the ASC factory reinforcement on the rocker panels, as do most that are designed this way for hardtop cars. Spohn does make ones that mount in the same location for convertibles, but are clearanced to mount along with the factory reinforcement. The MAC and Alston design doesn't change because there is no difference in that area between coupes and convertibles.

teh deal is, some of us can weld or have friends... so they're free.
some of us find car guys... they cost a couple beers or $20
then theres the good guys that arnt out to rip you off, they're $40 -$60
then theres basic good shops.. $80ish - $100ish
then theres the shops trying to make a lil extra $120-150
then theres places that want to analy rape you or have you go somewhere else. thoes are $150+ heard of some poor sap in cali paying $300 to have it done "because the labor rate is higher in cali".... bullshiznit. its cali. they just wanted to analy violate you.
What's the current status of this group purchase?
Are MAC sfc's exactly the same as Alston's? (Or what's different?)
Nothing needs to be cut or cleared right? From the pic, it looks like just a few easy welds and you're ready to roll....
Is ground clearance going to be a problem?
Laters,
Scott

I should have my tax money in the next couple of days. If it's still going, I want in. SFC's are the first thing on my list of things to do.
Good, then I should see how much money I have left. (Registering several vehicles in hawaii is expensive as hell now!)
I was planning to buy alstons sfc's in the future anyway, this might save me some cash.

I'd still like to know as well. I just got in an accident and hope to be coming into some money since it was the other guy's fault so I'll want to be getting some SFC's. Someone PLEASE let us know!

Few questions:
Do these MAC's restrict ground clearance?
DO you have to cut the floor pan to install?
Will they work with factory exhaust?
I plan to run them in conjunction with Competition Engineering's Bolt-On SFC's.
Thanks
KZad

I jusy talked with Mike and he said that the GP is still going on with the SFC's......he said that not one person has placed an order and that was since Jan.
That I would be the first. He told me that the price on the top thread still stands. He is ready to send items.
Im IN!
I just need to transfer money from PayPal to credit card.
I wish he had a PAYPAL account but he doesnt.

I'm in! Do we have to have all 6 orders in before any of them ship, or will they ship as the orders come in? I pick up my new (to me, at least) '89 IROC vert on Saturday, so I would be able to place my order on Monday.

I'm calling tomorrow. I know DJCobol personally and he alerted me to this over here so I looked the deal over and decided that I wanted in. I can always get the boxed SFC's in conjunction with these in the future if I do drop in that 600ci TT'd monster
J/k
J/k This may be an idiotic question, and if so I apologize, but would there be any benefits to running TWO sets of SFC's i.e. have the Spohn perimeter type as well as the MAC ones that run closer to the center, would this aid in strengthening the chassis or would it be overkill? Just curious as both my camaros have excessive flex that I am trying to eliminate as much as possible.

I just got off the phone with Mike. I placed an order for a set of red ones. How is it I am the last person to hear about this GP (2 months after it started) but the first one to place an order? COME ON GUYS!!! Get those orders in! DJCobol is going to be calling next week (the week of the 28th - 3rd) so that'll be 2 orders already.
Ohh, Wishmaster, he said that he had talked to you and that you wanted to hold off on the order. No better time than now man to call in and get that order placed. We'll have ours shipped out first when 5 orders are in.

It's correct now.
