12s??? Kicked that door down real hard!!!

Well the weather finally allowed for some proving at the track, I sent her down for her maiden voyage.

This was my first time ever taking a car down the track. I was nervous as all heck, driving a drag race at the track is no easy task. I couldnt do anything right: terrible reaction time, couldnt launch and broke em loose spinning all the way through 1st, couldnt shift it properly as I was bouncing off the rev limiter, and to boot I kept my foot into it way after the traps and had to exit from the brake failure ramp.

And after all that my dreams of a better second run were shattered as they decided to toss me off the track.

But all in all it was a ton of fun and regardless of my poor performance the car hauled some serious ***!!!:hail:

All with the stock 48mm TB, just something to chew on.
Got tossed for no DS safety loop.

So at the end of the day the 113.5mph trap speed guarantees me 11.8-11.9 with traction, NA. Ahh yes, all in the comfort of my full power, A/C, full interior, cruise control, well mannered and sexy beautiful EFI weekend warrior!

we should race for $hit's and giggles!! I gotcha beat on the 1/8miles (mine broke before 1/4 mile mark ) but it would still be lots of fun. Let me know if you ever plan on bringing that sucker down to Tucson. Nice times.

I plan to take my car on many high mileage pleasure trips. Tucson is inevitable. The real question is, when are you going to drive that track only race bucket up here to Phoenix to face me at the track? Lets not force this to be a one sided affair now.

Thanks for the props though bro, the jest and jabs are all in good fun.

Right now the vid is 10mb. Let me know what the biggest size is you can host and I will try to shrink it down to that size if 10mb is too big.

Thanks for offering!

I guess I'll reply here 'cause I didn't wanna jack that other guys thread, but...

Congratulations, those are some excellent times! I see high 11s really soon with better traction. Gotta love those extra cubes and the SR, definitely a proven setup.

But I hear ya about the TB, and I don't blame you. Like I told you earlier, it would be nice to borrow one and swap it right at the track and see what happens. I'm sorta in the same boat, I'm debating if I should swap to Hooker long tubes. I see lots of guys running fast with shorties, so I'm not sure yet either. It might be my ticket to the 11s.

But if you do swap in a bigger TB, you just might go faster.

I hear ya bro, freeing up cfm is never a bad thing. However if I cant put the power to the ground now then more power will benefit me very little, of course I will gain MPH.

When the budget allows the next purchase will be a set of 27" ET Streets to get my gearing dialed in perfect for the powerband and give me that much needed traction out of the hole.

Thanks bro!

I may have an offer that might be hard to turn down. If you come down to race at SIR and you want to experiment with throttle bodies, I'll let you borrow my Holley 58mm TB so you can make back-to-back runs with your 48 and my 58. It's not installed on my car.... yet. I have a 52, but I'm using it currently. If you'd rather try it, maybe we can work something out. Incidentally, the TB is for an 85-88. Will this work? And I live on the other side of I-10 from SIR, about five minutes away in Rita Ranch....

hahaha track only race bucket. Nevermind the fact that I drove it to work and school 4 times this week alone Hell my mustang has sat for almost as many times this month as my firebird has. Everyone has their own version of a street car..........As far as going to phoenix? Hrmmm......Never sounds good It would make it just fine (aluminum radiator, water pump, ect..) but it would kill me on gas money. I'll wait for you and yer damn overdrive/efi

Thats an awesome proposal! However I dont think I will have a weekend free up that would allow me down to Tucson untill mid May or Early June. Finals are right around the corner and the whole family is rolling in for Graduation.

If for some reason you are up in Phoenix we can try to put something together. A FRI night or SAT morn at the track or maybe a dyno session.

But I just dont see Tucson in my near future. I will keep the offer though on the top of my mind.

No prob. I have no plans on going to Phx, but I still might have the TB laying around for another couple of months or so. I bought it in February and have currently no intentions of installing it anytime soon. That's because my Superfueler base plate (sandwiched between the plenum & TB) has 52mm holes. I'm planning on getting rid of it and my MAF and going speed density. So it doesn't make sense to install the 58mm TB until this happens. Right now, I don't know when the conversion will be completed. Contact me whenever in the future if you know you'll be coming down. I still might have the TB laying around. Sound good?

Nice man! Not very often I've seen them call you on the DS loop, too. I've been there with a few 12 second cars that didn't have them...

Nice bloody run though man!!

Congrats Mark !!! It was great to see all your hard work and research pay off.

Pull a 1.70 60' and you have your 11's. Put on the 58mm and I'm sure you'll hit your 11.8 goal without much trouble.

Then we get to see if the nitrous bug bites you, lol !

Well looky here, its ESAMS!!!

We can all thank ESAMS for his wonderfull commentary at the end of 1/4 mile run, a freind who truely speaks from the bottom of his heart, or well maybe from some of the drinks in the bottom of his stomach!!!

About that TB, I hope to get together with Willie for some TB testing sometime to get some real proof to offer the 3rd gen community, however when I get some traction if I can drive her into the 11s then I will not spend the cash on a TB as I will have reached my goal, 11s NA.

Thanks though man, its always fun to serve up the results on a silver platter to the nay-sayers out there, oops thats my other self talking again!!!

Omnious,

Glad to see you made it to the track, but sucks that you only made one pass. Must have been a skinny tech guy to get under your car.

Your MPH is very nice. I am a jealous fool.

What PSI did you set the tires at?

Well actually when they asked if I had the loop, like an idiot I said no, so the guy said to then keep it in the 13s and thats all he passed me for.

I am so smart sometimes.

My first time at the track, and i got kicked out for not having a helmet! Man, definitely post up here next time you plan on gettin to the track, i would love to see that car hit the 11's! Maybe i could get my hands on a set of slicks see if i can get mine down closer to mid 13's. I was very pleased with my results that night, and i know you were too.

I know you had your doubts and we had our words in the past, I recall some bickering about heads, cam, and tuning in the past.

However like carburators and bias ply tires, most things in the past are already ancient history.

But I apreciate the nice remarks, thanks.

Hrmm, yeah, carburetors are just soooo slow
And this wasn't even my best run....

This time done at 2,000 feet higher elevation on a motor with 33 less cubic inches than yours, stock rotating assembly, a NON roller cam, and a carb I put together in about 30 minutes before I went to the track. Yep, carbs are ancient history

Bring that EFI money burner down to Tucson and we'll see how slow carbs are Better yet, I"ll be coming up to Firebird shortly......Probably late August.

I might head up to watch the race. But my lowly EFI will be getting 24+ MPG on the way up there.

Please, you couldnt pay me to run your combo under my hood.

People have been slapping together 10mpg, big cammed, single purpose motors together for damn near a hundred years now.

I could have built a motor like that what you have for the investment I made in my intake alone combined with all the carb era relics we got laying around.

There is no glory in running technology that was shelved by the performance market 20 years ago.

Thats just in case you didnt already know.

Funny, somebody talking to ME about running technology that was already shelved....and he's got some Edelbrock RPM's on a 383 long rod motor, wow, that hasn't been done 50 million times before. How many people do you know running Canfield heads?? None?? Do you know why?? Because they are NEW tech! Well yes they've been around the block a while now, but they are about a million light years ahead of edlebrock heads.

And I'm sorry but bragging about the cost of your intake being the same as my motor just comes off as being snobby, not impressive.

You are starting to sound like Willie minus 20 years (no offense willie)

I'll tell you what the glory is............its you seeing tail lights and me laughing at the "but I get 25 mpg" excuses. :P If I want to get 25mpg and cool down in the A/C, I'll drive my mustang, if I want to put the smack down on cocky EFI owners, I'll drive the firebird I noticed you didn't offer a race, smart choice. Nuff said

Geesh, I ddnt mean to hurt your feelings.

However before you decide to run of at the mouth again you might want to look at what parts combo I am running as you got the wrong set of heads on my motor.

And again, sticking a big port set of heads on 350 with a track only cam has been done for years, I have had one.

Heck I had a motor just like yours when I was 16 years old in my first car, a 2nd gen Z28. It had been around the block a few times, showed her age, no AC, no cruise, a fun motor, but that was really about it. And all those damn trips to the gas pump got aold after awhile so I unloaded it.

Carb Vs. Efi is just like saying Type Writer Vs. Computer.

well they both do the intended job well, and one does it a whole lot cheaper than the other.

computers do a whole lot more than typewriters, efi doesn't do any different function than a carb.

so until efi can play mp3s and look up ****, i'll stick with my carburetor.

EFI controls the ignition, also. And you can pinpoint a certain range to tune where on a carb it's pretty much a jet for a wide range.

And I can program a 730 ECM to play MP3s... just not very well.

Ominous,

Not sure if you are going to run Chris but...if you want to make this race interesting by going bottle to bottle, just let me know. I still have my plate system you can use that is still sitting in my closet. I might sell it soon, but I will definitely hold onto it for a little longer if you are game. We just need to do some wiring and get the bottle filled.

Chris,

Go back to the track and see what your car runs in the 1/4. You sound too much like AZIROC (no offense AZIROC), with your signature and what it should run. I am not talking smack about your ride, I just want to see a 1/4 slip.

Your damn right I am gonna run him, I told him months ago if he ever got his rig up here I would meet him at the lights.

No N2O for me though at this time, when I go N2O it will be a dry setup with the extra fuel mapped in through the ECM, however I will need 30lb injectors before that happens.

Maybe we work out something with your 52mm TB though

LMAO....
He's right! 18 degree is the way to go now, carbed or EFI.

I still run a 23 degree head but would love to have an LS1.

I also have both carbed and EFI car... Being I drive to the track 1 hr each way I love my EFI .. But not knocking my Holley either I love it equal but the comfort does not compare. But still trying to bust 10's with the EFI combo.

You guys don't read very well. I pulled that 7.70@91 (the run not posted) OFF THE BOTTLE with no third gear. In case any of you guys know the slightest bit about timeslips, a 7.70 converts to a solid 12.0. Ask the X number of people I've beaten with mid 12 second cars in Tucson if my car is really worthy of that 1/8 mile time conversion, and I'm sure they will concure (I'm talking to you Jonathan). Its kinda hard to run a full 1/4 mile pass with no third gear. Sorry if I'm not some rich boy living with my mom and her 3 car garage and I have other bills to pay besides getting a "pro built 700R4" as I remember omnious telling me in person. I am poor as ****, and considering I make near minimum wage, go to school full time, leave in apartments, and work on my car in the sun on the gravel, I find it pretty impressive to be able to beat down on people with loads more money in their cars, better MPG or not, who ****ing cares. That is the "glory" I see. I have things to concentrate on this month like making the deposit for my new house and paying my OWN tuition. My tranny is getting pulled mid July when I get my house so I actually have a place to fix my car, and the heads are getting a full port job by me, so if you're still up for a race sometime late next month, bring your cocky *** down to Tucson, with whatever heads you're running, and me and a certain beer built 305 "prehistoric" carb motor friend of mine who I'm sure will post his latest timeslip in this thread will both lay waste to your high dollar Hi tech slug. Put up or shut up. I already offered to race, twice now.

Damn talk about a misinformed troll or someone who is just plain scratching for excuses to run his big mouth again.

1. My parents live in Chicago and I own a condo here in AZ with a 1 car garage, actually I own 2 condos but rent the other one out to tenants. I haven’t lived with my parents in over 6 years, friggin clown spreading your goofy lies.

2. I don’t own a “pro built” trans, got my trans built here locally for a very reasonable price, likely the cheapest 700R4 build in the Southwest. Again, more crack in your pipe distorting your version of reality.

3. Go ahead, concentrate on your house deposit, I have been there twice before.

4. As for school, yeah, I just graduated ASU with my 4-yr, oh I paid for that to, plus all those pesky little bills that come in each month.

Now back to reality, months ago I said that if you ever got up here I would run you, do I need to dig up the thread? So get off your soap-box like you’re a victim of some kind.

However after your last response I will say this: I never thought you were a bitter little troll who would be willing to spread lies about people while wallowing in your own self pity trying to explain to yourself your plot in life, guess I was wrong.

So honestly I want nothing to do with someone like you, whether it is personally or at the track, you are a pathetic little person and the type of folk that I don’t associate with. So run along now with your pity tears in your eyes and keep your troll *** outa my thread, thanks.

Wow, I must have really struck a nerve, thats the first time in my life I've ever been called a character from a wizard movie.

Who says I was making a direct reference to you? You gave me the line of BS that anybody could build a single purpose motor and directly tried to put down my car, and I just defended it. Its just common knowledge that MOST of the people on these boards are younger folk living with their parents with no responsibilities, so building what I built on my budget is impressive. Building what you built with a much higher budget is good for you, but quite trying to talk everyone into thinking that if they can't afford what you've built, then they arent' as good as you, that is just being a flat out snob.

Why do you keep telling me I have to come to Phoenix? If you supposedly get 25mpg all day long with the A/C on, I'm not understanding the need for me to come to you. You're just scared of a beat down and know that I prefer not to drive such a distance

Lighten the **** up dude, its all just 'friendly' internet trash talk. I trash talk even my best friends here just to coax a race out of them. Ask Synapsis or mrt89rs.

This thread DOES need to lighten up a bit. Please! And since track conditions are so different between Tucson and Phx, then I say you both make the trips to both tracks and see what happens. My $.02.
