13's from a daily driven 305...YES!!!

went to the track yesterday for my birthday. i turned 20, i had a blast.

when i got there i wanted to get 2 base runs down to have something to compare the tweeking i was doing.

stock ignition curve springs/wieghts and a 275/60/15 tire (3.73's in the back)

60': 2.152 (tire spin)
330': 6.007
1/8: 9.186
mph: 76.99
1000': 11.959
1/4: 14.309
mph: 96.35

60': 2.168(more tire spin)
330': 5.997
1/8: 9.157
mph: 77.51
1000': 11.909
1/4: 14.240
mph: 97.13

put a set of 235/60/15's on to see if a better "gear" would help.

60': 2.231 (spun, let off, got back on, spun HARD)
1/4: 14.212
mph: 98.35(picked up mph and et)

played with launching at different stall speeds(got a 2000rpm stall converter) and netted this best run:

60': 2.160
330': 5.936
1/8: 9.078
mph: 77.81
1000': 11.808
1/4: 14.114
mph: 98.23

changed to a mr. gasket advance curve kit with the lightest springs

60': 2.223 (spun HARD AGAIN!)
1/4: 14.235
mph: 98.84

went back up and did a burnout (hadn't been cause of the street tires, i thought that a burnout would hurt...)

60': 2.105 (better but still spinning!)
330': 5.874
1/8: 8.992
mph 78.49
1/4: 13.976
mph: 99.33

then i wanted to reach 100mph so i took the power steering pump belt off...best run of the night...

60': 2.104
330': 5.848
1/8: 8.947
mph: 79.10
1000': 11.628
1/4: 13.888
mph: 100.24

traction will eventually be dealt with, but i am putting a hood and some new accessory brackets on it first. overall, i am EXTREMELY pleased.

Great job on the 13sec run. I too am considering building a 305 just to p*** off the 350 guys. My car will have a t5, other than that it will be the same as yours, less the roll bar. Any ideas?

Box your lower control arms, take off your front sway bar and get relocation brackets for your lca.

That would help your traction for less than $200.

Nice times, good job. If you havent already try going to a lighter spring in your vacuum secondaries.

congrats. i'm sure there's a few more tenths in there that you could pull out with traction.

Great job man! I wasted my 20th birthday trying unsuccesfully to get laid (If I can remember that far back) and should have been at the track instead. Remember, there's a song with the line "there's women who wait for the man and machine with the best time" (OK- name the band and the song and you win a cookie!)

You didn't say what the temp was last night but I imagine is was a bit cooler than your runs you made this summer.

I can see that the "gear" helped you, but it made the 60' somewhat worse- smaller diameter and less tire contact.

I wish I had time to work out my S10's bugs and go to the track again. I should send you my truck for tuning.

Eric

the 305 is a solid motor, if i had it to do again, i would have built a 350 though. you do have the advantage with the t5 though. the car you saw i actually crashed last winter, but the red car that is on the site is the one i am driving now...

the car is going to get a hood next. then i am going to put a set of spohn lca's on it. i would like to put a set of the new m/t drag radial 275/50 tires on it. i think that they are like a 26.1" tall by 10" wide tire.

temps last night where in the mid/low 60's with a relatively high humidity...track prep was minimal as well...my father wouldn't drive his car, even though he had it there....85 z28 with a big solid cam and dart iron eagle heads (about 550hp) and a power glide with a trans brake and 4.56 gears in a 9" with 28x10.5 mt's...3100lbs. street car...completely street legal

lighter spring in my secondaries may make traction a bigger issue than it already is.
