Post aftermarket hood pics- need opinions fast...
I was involved in a car accident yesterday. A driver couple cars ahead lit up his brakes at 45 (he didn't see the car ahead of him turning
). The result was a three car pileup. Mine got the worst by far... the vehicle ahead of me was a pickup. His tailpipe went clear through my nose and my hood looks like an accordion. I'll post some pics tomorrow... The good news however is that since my car ended up under his truck the damage isn't as bad as it could be. The radiator is fine and there's no frame or fender damage. The painted Z28 scoops survived without damage also. I only need a new front nose and hood.
I'm thinking an SS or a ramair hood would look the sharpest. Which type of aftermarket hood do you think would look best on my car? My cardomain site: www.cardomain.com/memberpage/638668
Whatever hood I buy I will have stripes added to it. Also, should I go with the Heritage stripe look again, or continue them down as full body stripes?
Please post all Your aftermarket hood pics and opinions.. I'll be ordering by monday.

I would go with an SS hood or 3 inch cervini cowl. Cowl hood + high rise spoiler =
I dont really like the look of the ram air hood on most camaros. camaroguy18's looks good though

You haven't locked that car up yet? I suppose you didn't get the 5" of snow today that we recieved up here?
Stay away from twin turbo hoods, the double scoop, for some reason they look really wierd looking at from the front...LOOKS LIKE A FACE
4inch cowl is a great hood IF you line it up PROPERLY.... if you half *** it they look horrible.

I don't like the cowl hoods because everyone has them and a 4" is waaaay too big. The ram air hood is hideous, I don't think it even ooks right on the Firebirds, the RAII version anyways the RAI looks ok on birds. The SS is ok...a bit bulky I think the 3rd gen SS hood needs a little slimming down, but it looks alright. I'd say get an SS or a stock blister hood and make it functional....and I'm not really a stock **** by any means
Oh and why no stripes on an SS hood megaracer?

Anyways, The RAII hood just looks wierd to me on a thirdgen, but the one pictured above makes it work somehow. There are one or two other cars here with it that made it work well.
A 4" cowl to me looks out of place and way too big. The 2-3" hoods are a good size, you notice it but it is not obnoxous.
Here's a pic of the cervini's style cowl hood:

those stripes flow with the body lines and hood...try and put stripes like that on the thirdgen where its more square and it'll look weird
oh and parks....it's in storage, just a few pics on my comp from before I put it away...still no snow yet down here

I think a cowl hood would go much nicer with your stripes than would the ss hood, just my

Ah yes, if you are looking to keep the 25th theme, look up user "luvmy92", he did a killer job of stripes with a cowl hood. :hail:

Another vote for the Cervini 3"
I have one although it isn't on yet and I really like it so far
It doesn't have that annoying ridge in the middle that makes it look like a upside down boat. Plus it isn't too small or too big at 3" One more thing, it has a finished underside that really looks nice if you plan on painting it too.

Here's a pic of my twin turbo hood, I think that's what it is. Came with the car when I bought it.
Do I like it, yes. But the toolbag I bought the car from didn't have it adjusted right, so the latch broke when I was going 120 mph.
So I'm forced to use hoodpins to hold it down. I also need to put something towards the center of the hood to keep the contour of the hood even with the fenders.

Joe, I think the hood is settling from being fairly thin causing the uneven contours.
I just noticed in the pics above your car looks red/maroon instead of orange?!?

Yeah, its dark red/maroon. You kinda had me wondering when you suggested to paint it sunsent orange. The rear bumper and right left quarter panel was painted the wrong color (thank you J.S. Lee autobody) and gives it a rusty orange color. My car is a mess.
Now that I think of it, I really like the SS hood! Maybe I should put that on the list.

It's not sunset orange, but the thirdgen variant of it. (more of a burnt orange color)
An SS hood would rock!

Getting the hood you have now to fit right again will be a pickle if at all possible.

I just looked up the SS hood and its 399 @ hawks. I think I'll definitely ditch this hood and go with that before I paint.

Thanks for the replies and pictures guys. I think I've definately ruled out a Ram Air hood. The black and red Z with the SS hood that 85maroz28 posted really caught my eye.
The cervini's style cowl hood also looks very sharp though. Does anyone have pics of a cowl hood on with full-body stripes? Seeing this would pretty much determine which way I go...
Now for some grisely photos...

Anyways, you can grab one from www.cervinis.com. They are priced great for a high quality hood.

EDIT: Holy smokes I didn't think they were only $399! :hail:

The Cervini dropped on smoothly and required a very minor amount of adjusting to get it just right. guess it all depends on the individual hood.

Get a jongbloed hood (the name sounds like a jamaican saying "young blood")... amazingly I don't have any pics of one in my gallery. I could have sworn that I had one before, but... guess not..

I just sent them to you this morning! haha. More pics in my cardomain siite.
Another Unlimited Products 2.5" cowl hood. I've heard they take some work to look show-worthy, and the underside is unfinished fiberglass. It's very light though and fairly cheap, so if you're looking for function over form, this might be the one for you. Personally, I'd go with an SS hood if you have to choose between the two.

I went to cervini's web site and apparently they don't make a cowl hood for a Trans Am. I want to go with a 3" cowl hood for my TA sometime this spring. Which brand has the best fit and finish for the Pontiac version? Thanks

Well, this was an extremely tough decision. I was stuck between the SS hood and the Cervini Cowl hood. Both have their own unique looks. At the end of this thread I even started considering the Jongbloed hood with some full-body stripes. I have decided though, on the SS hood with some Heritage stripes.
If it weren't for the picture of the black and red Z28 with the SS hood that 85maroz28 posted, I probably would have ended up going with the Cervini Cowl.
By the way, with all pictures of the absolutely gorgeous cars in this thread we could have an online car show.

Thanks again for all the replies and photos...
Hopefully I'll have it looking good again within a month. - Camaroguy21
