dual 3" mid project...

anybody who says the hedman FL's swap right in is out to lunch, at least for a T5.

Neither fit on either side, we had to heat up the primaries and extend the collector 2 1/2" to clear the slave cylinder, cut the k-member on both sides, and dent various primaries in order to clear the frame. 3 hrs of work on just the headers.

Now the fun work of fitting dual 3's, 2 CATS, and 2 Ultra Flows is next.

damn, other than the cats, it's tucked way up there, dual 3"over each side of the axle. It's looking sweet. The x-pipe looks like something made by Jesse James.

By the way Paul, I may need 2 of those 3" band clamps you were telling me you may have left over.

I haven't yet, my sister took my dad's digi cam with her to Ottawa, but I'll snap some tomorrow.

The only part that hangs low is from the converters and the x-pipe. The converters are directly under the trans. crossmember, but right after them we angle cut the pipe to come up.
By the time the pipe is at the back seats, it's 1/4" from the floor, you won't even be able to see it(I hope).

I'll try and get some pics.

Actually, from what I heard, the car was a wreck, but the hood didn't have a scratch on it. I'm guessing his friend, the other guy looking at it, will probably buy it off him.

hangs a little low for my liking, but i had to put the cats somewhere close to the motor. If only I didn't have a trans. crossmember...

this is kinda dark, i tried to show the x-pipe and all.
SS is beautiful to work with. The guy wanted to polish it all before we put it on, but 13hrs was well enough for me. Plus, i'm not throwing mirrors under it at a show anytime soon, unless i want to show my factory undercoating.

Uhhhhh, won't that rest on the ground when you take the car off of the jack stands?

I don't know we'll find out.

The rear wheels are sitting full weight on cinder blocks, but you can't see them in the picture.
I hope it's not that low. I've seen alot of pictures on here, with worse ground clearance.

Anyways, as for those headers, I had to dent in 2 primaries, one substantially. I't s more of a worked oval primary now, and i had to extend the one collector by 3". I picked up some header wrap today, and I'll head to CT and pick up some BBQ paint, and paint them tonight. Tomorrow I'll wrap them and install them, find a place for hangers, tighten it all up, them maybe Friday or the weekend, I'll drop it back down.

I have to agree, I think that looks a little low. You'll definetly have to go around speedbumps altogeather.

If there is full weight on the tires now, get a tape measure and measure from the ground to the lowest point on the exhaust. Then, take a jack and jack the rear end up until all the travel is taken out of the suspension and measure to the bottom of the tire. That should give a rough idea how much clearance there will be when you drive down the road and hit bumps and such.

I hope to *** your all wrong.

But it will be tight, I know this for sure. using a bottle jack I can jack the x-pipe up close to the floor, and it takes the bow out of it, the only problem is I need to find a spot to hang it up that high, but the only thing around there is floor, no frame. maybe remove the carpet, and drill through the floor?

The cats are really tight, I've been thinking about making some pipes to replace them when not being e-tested, but if i get pulled over i'm screwed.

Could you tack a set of hangers to the floor? And just leave the ****ing cats on. They aren't going to cost you any power. You put a 3" dual exhaust on the damn car.

yeah the cats are staying on.
I just need to put a hanger around the center of the x-pipe area to pull that bow up. I comes up real easily, it's finding a place to mount thats hard.

A big solid strip of rubber or something, maybe cut up an old tire. I know where theres a set of Nitto's I can get rubber from.

On a side note, your up friggin early. Did you see what it's like during a sunrise?

Ok, the car is sropped, and I have 2.5" at the lowest point which is the x-pipe in the center. So as long as I stay away from speedbumps, I'll be OK.

I broke my temp. line gauge. And it smells exactly like ether. So i have to pick up another gauge, run that then drop the dist. in and start it up.

Sometime this week...

It started, and i have to say, although with the Cats and the X-pipe, it's alot quieter than the Flowmaster was. But it's really deep, I mean really deep. The nasty lope of the cam has mellowed, but the whole thing sounds like a mild big block. It's definately nice sounding.

the downfalls are that the bottom of the car is covered with undercoating, really liquid, like old motor oil just sprayed off, and it was getting so hot it was melting and falling on the ground, which Isn't bad except that I saw a couple small flames over top the Cats that i had to put out with the hose. So I'll have to get some serious degreaser and do the whole underside of the car.
Also the left bank is running lean, so I'll have to set the idle mixture.

Is it normal for Cats to glow cherry red?

Don't say that, you make me want to vomit.

Instead, it sounds like 1 healthy smallblock Now lets put those boat anchors back where they belong, the TRAILER.

I need to thank you carm for getting me to try the Ultra Flows. The Flowmasters sound like garbage compared to them.

Actually the CATS glowing red means I was lean. I richened the mixture up, and everything was golden from then on.
