Finished Polishing Super Ram!
First attempt at posting a picture. This will go into my 86 Trans Am. Spent a LOT of time sanding to get this result!
I'll post more if this works.

Make sure it fits those rules, and give it another try. I'd like to see your manifold. I'm stuck in a foreign land and like to see things from home, hehe.
If it's a big picture and you want to shrink it, and have XP, look up a website about XP Powertoys. There's an image resizer there that's slick: just right click, resize, set size, done.

Or email me the pix and I'll reduce and post them for you (or send them back re-sized, which ever you prefer). I wanna see them too!

vernw,
Thanks for posting the pictures for me. Hopefully everyone will enjoy them.
There was a lot of time involved in sanding, shaping, painting the black lines in the plenum and buffing using a bench grinder with different grades of metal polish/bonnets. All in all, I'm really happy with the results. My local shop charged $60/hr to do this type of work. I bought a bench grinder at Menards, the metal polish and different bonnets for a total of $80 and read the link in this post from MetalliCamaroRS who is the moderator for the Auto Detailing and Appearance (entitled Polishing Your Wheels), which is an excellent article for the beginner or seasoned. While I was waiting on parts for the motor, I began the sanding/buffing process to have something to do since time is limited around here. All I really have in it is my time and patience. It is without a doubt in my opinion to be one of the best visual upgrades under the hood.
The car is coming along, got the engine bay painted, new radiator brackets made, and the motor installed and running. Still need new tires to mount on my Ronal R-15 wheels and then I'll be ready to hit the road again.
Once again thanks for posting the pictures. Below is the link to the article that I read to do the sanding and buffing.

Nice work!
I originally did my TPI and it worked out well, Then I just finished doing my HSR (two month job there)
You got a very nice final finish, What did you use as a final compound?

jeez those are the sexiest motors ever! lol i love it. maybe i should polish my hsr before i put it in, i think it will be worth it, plus i wont have the money for a custom tune for a little while anyhow. it looks like it was totally worth it.

TJP 86 SS,
I used white rouge for the final polish. Gave it a deep shine and added some 'color to it'. Thought about doing my plenum and runners for my 91 GTA but that is on the back burner now because I want to get this bad boy on the street...someday though I'll tackle that one.
If you got the time to do it, I highly recommend it. Thanks for the compliments on the motors. It should run as good as it looks!

Thanks for the info. I used the white but I think I used too hard of a wheel. Just didn't bring out the shine like I wanted.
yours has the shine I was going for.
Here's some pics of it.
http://www.wideopenwest.com/~Johnand...b/Rebuild3.htm
Actually the runners and plenum on the TPI seem to be a smoother/softer aluminum allow or something. They really shine up nice with just a little effort compared to the HSR. Really had to work it to get it to come around.
And I would rather pay someone to do something as complex as the HSR base. I spent waaaaayyy too much money on the little wheels and such to do most of it. The top is a piece of cake.

Formula350sd,
The heads on my motor are AFR 195s. I'm not sure what Mr.Iroc Z has on his motor. That thing is going to be a screamer though!
Hopefully the polishing will draw a lot of attention under the hood, that was the whole intent. Thanks for the compliments.

Very nice! Anyone that looks at that SuperRam, has to realize the work involved to get those results. I had polished some alternators, and stock TPI plenums, but I never got the itch to take on what you have. Nice work!

The valve covers are off a GM crate 350 that I used a wire wheel on to remove the 'chevy orange' outline. Then I sanded them smooth and lightly buffed with metal polish compound. Hope that helps.

TV and throttle cable hook up like stock onto the throttle body.
The injector plugs are going to run 'inside' the runners if I can get them to fit because I want to clear up the clutter and focus attention onto the Super Ram when the hood is open. Thinking of other ways to 'open' up the engine bay and decrease the number of wiring harnesses. There're a lot of good ideas from other pictures I've looked at from members of this page.

it just looked like the plenum (in relation to the cable bracket) would be in the way of the cable getting there in a straight line.
