2005 FALL BRAWL--DRAGSTRIP "RULES OF ENGAGEMENT"

Since the rules/procedures/info (whatever U want to call it) for the "Fastest Houston Thirdgenner" portion of the "FALL BRAWL" is kinda scattered around in a couple different posts/threads, I wanted to combine it, and put it all in one place for people to refer to, so here's goes.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

If U join us at HRP Fri night, U do not HAVE to run the elimination ladder--in fact U do not have to run at all. Come on out and watch all the fun! We can have all the test-n-tune runs U want to do--all the grudge matches U want to run--OUTSIDE of the "tournament", but your times are just for bragging rights! No awards will be given out for just turning in a quick time, except for "overall fastest ET".

Everybody is responsible for paying their own admission fees at the track. At the moment, I am trying to negotiate a "group rate", but i need a better idea of how many will be going to the track on Fri night before I can do this!

---------------------------------------------------------
Houston Raceway Park
November 25 2005, Friday
Friday Safe Street Night
Time: 5:00pm - 10:45pm Central
Location: Drag Strip
Friday Night Street racing is where you can race your friends or pit your car against the world famous timers on the fastest quarter-mile on the planet.

Times and speed are given to each driver, but not shown on the scoreboards and not announced over the speakers. Everyone will see who wins the race, but only you will know your time and speed.

Pricing:
Car and Driver: $15.00
Spectators: 8.00
Kids 12 and under: FREE

Gates open at 5:00 pm
Time trials at 5:30 pm
Staging lanes close at 10:45 pm
--------------------------------------------------------------------

A total of 8 drag strip awards/plaques will be given.

OVERALL FASTEST HOUSTON THIRDGENNER AT THE 2005 FALL BRAWL!
An award will be given for the overall fastest time turned in for the eveniing, regardless of whethe or not it is in the elimination tournament/ladder--after all this is the "Fastest Houston Thirdgenner"

All cars participating must be street legal/street driven--NO TRAILER QUEENS!

Class winners of the following classes:
11.99 and faster class
12.00 to 12.99
13.00 to 13.99
14.00 to 14.99
15.00 to 15.99
16.00 + up

Fastest/best reaction time from all who participate in the double elimination ladder.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

After everybody makes a couple warm-up passes to see what kind of timesU are running, at approximetly 8pm, we will sign u up for whatever time class U feel is appropiate.

We will set up an elimination ladder for each time class and run a double elimination ladder. Which means if U win , U advance to the next round in the class U are in.

If U lose, U will advance to the losers ladder. After all the winners side is run until there is only one car left, that has not lost a race, all the people that HAVE lost one race will be paired up on the losers side/ladder. They will all run again until there is only one car that has only lost once.

If we have an odd # of cars in a round (3--5--7--ETC) the fastest car from the previous round get the bye run, but will be required to make a pass. If it is in the first round, where no times are available, we will draw a name from a hat, to see who gets the free pass/bye round.

Then the winner of the widder's ladder and the winner of the loser's ladder, in each time class, will run to determine who is that particular overall class winner, and a plaque will be awarded to that person.

We will have a .100 "breakout" rule to keep the sandbaggers from running in a class slower than they should be running.
EXAMPLE: If U sign up in the 14.00 to 14.99 class, and U run a 13.899 (or faster) it will be scored as a loss and U move to the losers ladder. (A 13.90 is acceptable -- NOT a loss! BUT FROWNED UPON!!!) If U run under the class minimum a second time, It will be scored as your second loss, and U are eliminated.

If U run a time faster than what the track will allow U to run, with the safety equiptment U have on your car, and can NOT make any more runs (unless it is the "final"), U will be eliminated. I do not know any other way to deal with that situation.

Please be advised, that if U run faster than 14.00 second ET's, HRP requires U to wear a helmet! It is up to U to provide one. I'm sure u can probably borrow one from somebody else if necessary, but be prepared!

I posted a question on one of the HRP message boards about what requirements are needed for what speed cars. Here's one answer. I suggest U check out what is need, from a more authoritive source, if U have a car that is running below 13's!

"I don't have the rule book in front of me (I'm at work right now) but you're correct on the helmets once you're running 13.99 and faster. I believe when you go 11.99 you need the single layer fire jacket, and at 11.49 you need a roll gage. I think you still need a cage at 11.99 if you are on drag slicks... the 11.49 is for factory type cars on street legal tires). I think the driveshaft loop comes in at 12.99, and if the car is a convertible, I think you need a cage at 13.99.

I'll get back with you over the next few days and verify this information, or if anyone knows for sure, please feel free to chime in!"

never heard of the fire jacket part for 11.99, but everything else sounds correct.

I've heard of it, but I hope they don't enforce it.

what I've always done for a helmet is just keep it in the passenger seat. the woman at the booth on the return lane who gives you your timeslip seems to be the only one who cares.

hey i saw on another board that clash of the titans that was supposed to be this weekend has been rescheduled for hrp on the 25th of november at hrp. that isnt gonna interfere with our deal, is it?

Probably, but then again with the small numer of people that say they are going to the drag strip Fri night, i don't think it makes much difference.

I just looked at the HRP message boards as well as the "Clash of the Titans" web site--YES they are scheduled for Fri/ Sat night of the weekend we were going to have our 2005 Fall Brawl. The admission prices are also all jacked up.

WELL, THIS SUCKS!!!
----------------------------------------------------------

1. I took a closer look at both again, and the admission prices and tech card prices look to be the same as normal.

2. The Clash of the Titans scheduling for Fri night is practice and Qual beginning @ 9pm.

3. I do not know how much it will cut down the amount of time we will have available for runs on the track.

4. I do know that with those guys there, it will make for a MUCH more interesting night in between the bad *** cars that will be there and the "performance midway displays and attractions"

5. I did send an e-mail to the HRP mgmt, (who have been very coperative and helpful in responding to our requests and needs), about the time available to us on the strip, as well as admission/tech card prices.

So, based on all that, do we cancel our plans, or do we turn this around into a positive and embrace the Fri night activities, and enjoy the show that will be there, as well as our own thirdgen show!!!

If we can get in the number of runs necessary for a couple of practice runs for everybody, and whatever is necessary for our different time/class elimination ladder (which does not look like many at this point), I would think this would be even better, than just the normal Fri night crowd at HRP!!!

Can somebody that has a better computer than my old system and dial-up ISP, PLEASE go to the HMP (just so we know what our options are) web site and see if they are showing anything for Fri--Nov 25th. I have problems with that site.

Message back from Gerald--one of the honchos at HRP.

"Craig,

our reschedule of the Clash will not affect your group on Friday Night. If
needed we will run late that evening and make sure everyone is accommodated.

The prices will remain the same. $15 to race, $8 adults, kids 12 and under
FREE

Thanks

Gerald."
