Megashifter in a Formula?

I saw on a website somewhere that the console megashifter fit all latemodel(86-92) camaros and firebirds EXCEPT formulas. Is this correct? I want to get one for my 88 formula 350 and want to know if it will fit and install properly. If not, then why? Thanks

Check out the June 2001 issue of Car Craft if you can. They put a megashifter into an 88 Formula 350. Theres only a couple pics and a small paragraph about it but it can be done if you modify the console a little bit.

They say it won't "fit" because it's not a perfect drop-in. Ever see how a Camaro's console is "boxy", with torx-screws on it? The Megashifter bolts into the Camaro console. To put it in ANY 86-up Firebird (not just Formulas!) console, you need to cut a hole in the console top, and then drill 4 holes in the corners to take the B&M plate.

FYI, when I put my Megashifter in, the plate "just fit" between the top of my window switches and the bottom of my ashtray button. I used a cutting tip on a soldering iron to cut the console top, and a low-speed drill to make the 4 holes. Measure 20 times and cut once!
