LCD Screen in dash pic inside :)

Heres where i put my 4" LCD screen inside my car its actually where the radio use to be and now my radio is where my heater controlls where with a lil modification. and my heater controlls are sent to a switch now .. right now the lcd screen is hooked up to a playstation ( prefect for when your waiting for your girlfrend to finish getting ready ) but im working on putting it to a comptuer to play mp3 and more the reason why i want to do it is to get diognostics from the car and maby use the comptuer to do some other stuff like nitrous saftey switch by reading the TPS sensor position .. what do you all think? i need to get some abs plastic for the sides of the tv does anyone know where to find it? well anyone have ne ideas i wish the glare wasent there it was a better pic..

To Jza (Please imagine Homer Simpsons voice here)MMMMMMMM....lady in red skirt bending over....MMMMMMMM Instead of using the ABS stuff, what do you think of maybe using the type of mirror stuff that you use to make a quick fix on the outside mirrors? Wal-mart sells a 8X10 sheet of it for like 5 bucks and you could cut it to fit around your 4" screen,Personaly I think it would look cool! I have a piece right now that I am thinking about using to make my cd player fit flush. Just an idea.

WOW, whut part of it looks like trash? Didn't you want to change your Radio with your heater controls a while back???, I think it looks kewl as H*LL . Gives it a nice modern look. I also think if you can hook the computer up to it so he could read the TPS and other sensors that would be pretty Bad A$$!! I just got one question where you put your heater controls or arent you affected by the cold?

Please tell me that was a joke. I am a fan of anyone who adds a personal touch to their car that makes it stick out. Even you with your ideas to cut out the rear brakes with a toggle switch well, maybe not that one. When you modify your car you take a risk of it turning out like trash and an eye-sore or it turning out clean, functional, and great looking. Why does it look like trash? It was done very professionaly and looks great. I think you should get a piece of plastic the same as the stock color and put that around the screen. This way it looks as if it were ment to be there...if you go with a mirror it will stand out too much for my eyes, maybe not yours. You'll be the one looking at it everyday, you decide.

Hay thanks for the responses im going to order the plastic this weekend hopefully so ill have more pics there i guess im going to have to take my time cutting out the plastic so the tv looks nice as for the heater and it being cold .. im going to school in wyoming and its FREEEEEEZEEEEING but what i did was hooked my heater up to a switch and had the lo med hi off of the heater controlls assmbly hopefully if i could get the plastic backing in strong enough i could add thoes 2 next to the tv to controll it or maby ill just hide thoes in my glove by my heater is still operational .. ( its cold i cant wait to go back to ny ) ..

i cant wait to start wireing up the computer stuff .. im trying to have one of my old comptuers mailed to me one that i could flash the bios startup image .. i want to flash it with like the chevy or z28 logo .. so when the comptuer starts up it displays that im going to do the trial wireing and programming tps stuff ect.. maby even truble cods stuff on my laptop . ill keep yas posted

oh and 2 tachs because when i got the car the tach dident work and i jumped the gun and bought one but the car was kinda in peaces so i just put the guage cluster in better and that one worked so i never moved it i like the other tach with the shift light tho i was thining about gutting it in the cluster and putting it into the dash cause i want to move the autmeter one but i havent decided yet.

thanx,
Eddie

Looks like you guys can dish it out but can't take it. Well bite me. MY PERSONAL opinion is its trash. I wouldn't have put it in that location. And i actually reversed my radio and A/C controls. Everyone is intitled to their opinion but *** forbid it differ from yours.

I see a big tach and another gauge there under the dash and a hole in the thing, just doesn't look good to me.

Eddie, i just thought of something. i wonder if you vould use the hvac controls from an 86-93 s-10, and set it to the side of your cig lighter on the right side of the instrument cluster. might work, shouldn't be too hard to do.

only a 4 inch display? i'm planning on fitting a 10 or a 12.1 up above the heater controls sometime late this year.

keep us posted

I'm just not a fan of that things postion. I was gonna mount a screen under the dash orginally but after sticking it everywhere i just couldn't decide.

I have been looking into the idea of head up display style, like a teleprompter, stick a screen under a tinted piece of plexi on the top of the dash that displays the image on the windshield, now that'd be cool. As long as the sun isn't in your eyes.

Isn't that the screen you attach to the PS1?

Anyway, I'm thinking of either getting a custom enclosure built for my setup or going with a inverted 7" widescreen flip down.

it's alright, a little small though don't you think?

hell, even a 7" in dash set is hard to play some games!

nice mod though, i love the originality........keep it up.

the ps1 screen looks out of place though, can't say i'm all for that one. but, it's still a nice idea and your on the right track.

I put a 5 inch screen in a honda crx where the vents where on top of the center console. when I installed it I wanted to find a way to protect the screen and make it look good too so I went to home depot ( you can go to any hardware store) and get a piece of plexy glass that would fit the entire space (covering the screen) I placed the screen in the middle of the plexy glass and used a dremel tool to round the edges on the plexy glass then I taped off the screen and then I used a black gloss paint and I painted the back of the plexy glass so the shinny side would be looking out into the cab of the car. I placed the correctly cut and painted plastic and screen in the car and used a good adhesive to attach the plexy glass to the console. this method looked awesome and the screen was protected.

Not to be a PIA, but have you ever heard of punctuation or spell check? I personally don't like the mods, but that's my opinion and if you like it, enjoy it, but I found it very dificult to follow what you were saying!

Factory tachs are not known for accuracy at high RPMs. Also, they lag.
