Cute blonde havin car troubles

Hey guyzz
I've just tried to switch my 1988 TBI Fbody to 1991 TPI. Everything has started up great so far and seems to be pretty responsive... But, my engine light is constantly on. I can't seem to get the codes out of the light when I jump the two terminals at the ADL port (I'm using a SD harness from Painless). Umm, maybe it has to do with my Map sensor?!? :P I'm also getting a lot of black smoke during idle. I've got everything alse on the car to work so far (keep u're fingas crossed!!)
I have to drive down to Florida for Valentines Day (I'm such a sweetiee) ...so, help me out boyzz!!!

Keep cute...Tar.

Is this light on from the time you start it up or does it come on while driving?? You are jumping the 2 top ports on the right of the ALDL, right??

doesn't black smoke mean you are running too rich?? the O2 sensor will pick that up and throw an engine light, what size injectors are you using, and hat is the computer from?? what is you ruel pressure at?? you may benefit from turning it down. I dont remember, did U say your car is a 305? if it is and you are running a TPI from a 350, you have 22lb injectors which are too big for a 305 unless you have some good mods. In my experience, black smoke means lots of gas.

Come on now, back to tech. The thing to do is get your hands on a scan tool and start going though the sensor data. I have no idea why you would get a SES light and not be able to pull a code.

well heres a pic of the car some of you requested...
I"m in the midst of double checking a lot of things... I'll get a pic posted of the engine compartment.
Are knock sensors from 305 TPI 350 tPI the same- or different enough to show the black smoke that I'm getting? I requested a 305...

trans slam=tara?????
guess I was hoping it was actually a hot chick into out cars. I've only found one so far.
ANYWAY.......
I don't think you can pull codes with the engine running, that does something else, diagnostic mode or something. Just do key on with the paper clip jumping the aldl terminals and then you can read the codes. This always worked for me.
Or just get a scanner so you can get running data too.
