My Polished Signal Lens & Pics!!!
Hey Everybody,
First off I must give credit for this to my friend and recruiter for the Austin 3rd Gen F-Body Club, Travis Frank. Travis found the one step magic potion needed to restore and polish the plastic lens on your car. Go out and buy some 3M Professional Formula One Step Cleaner Wax, Medium Oxidation Remover. Is it part# 39066 The pictures basically speak for themselves. The top lens is the practically new lens that was on my car when I got it and the one on the bottom is the original. As you can see it looks like one on most of our cars. With some elbow grease and 30mins of your time you can restore your lenses and pocket the $60+ you would have given on ebay for a new pair. The only thing you cant fix is the fact the plastic ages and becomes tinted over time. I applied and removed the polish about 4 times and then I sprayed some hefty amounts of Castrol Super Clean inside the housing to get the dirt and repeated the same for the newer one. You can do this for your rear tail lights as well which is what Travis did on his car and must tell you, they look like polished glass! Check out the pics!

Any one here are dirt biker(me)...if so you should know about the plastic polish available from Novus......the 3 step....Rought Med and smooth...anyway I am trying that. Look in the "chemicals" section of a dirtbike or ATV catalog. I have known about this for a while suggested it a few times but never got around to trying it.

To answer some questions I have been getting about the lenes and their clean up.
First, I did not take them apart. I just took them off the car obviously, I sprayed a bunch of Castrol Super Clean inside them through the hole the light socket goes into, filled with some water, and shook the vigerously. I did this about 6 times to the old one, about 3 to the new one. This helped break up and clean out the dirt and little cob webs that where inside. Plus, it cleans the piece of reflective metal that sits in the back of the housing.
Second, I guess I spent more around an hour on both of them, most of the time was on the older one.
If anyone else has anymore questions just let me know. I am going to attack my tail lights and 3rd brake light next to see how good i can make them look. My tail lights are not that bad but my 3rd brake light is alot like the older signal lenes.
First the plastic...... next, the TPI plenum!!!!!

I know it's an old thread, but this is something I want to do. Has that process removed any of the orange in the lense. The new ones are quite clearly orange, that looks just silver.
Bet it makes quite a difference to the car when put on. Also have you done your tail lights and brake light?
Cheers

I don't think new ones are orange. They are clear with orange bulbs. Older Camaros had orange ones though.
