Engine VIN number

Engine VIN number

Hey guys, I Need to get the VIn number off the Engine block because the stupid guy who sold it to me doesnt know anything about it. he says its a 350 crate, it does have the power but i dont think it has 50,000 miles like he predicts. Whats the Easiest way to find the VIN????

Couple things here, the VIN is actually identifiable to the car, not the engine...a portion of the VIN should be stamped on the pass side of the block below the head (front) on a machined pad, could be greasy and full of gunk...most likely hidded from accessories.

You may be able to spot a 5.0 or 5.7 on the underside of the block, but it's been reported here that that may not be conclusive.

the number casted into the rear of the block above the bellhousing will give you the engine family, but may yeild many differnt years/vehicle combos.

Crate engine have a different number too, I believe.

Problemz,

Look on the right front head deck and the left rear ledge for stamped and cast numbers:





An original engine should mathc teh sequence number in the vehicle VIN, and the casting numbers should give you a date and design idea.
