I can't remember where, but I saw a website where a guy put it on his '91 Camaro. He said it was well worth the $70 he paid. I guess for $20 you cant hardly go wrong. My only concern when I saw this is: there are two shown in the picture...who gets more than one STB so they can sell them for $20????? I don't know, but it seems a little shady...just my initial thought.

I've been studying ways to stiffen the frame, including strut tower braces, and this one looks kind of flimsy. Maybe it's got a little more beef than it looks like, but all the ones that I've had experience with have tubing with bracing through the middle. My dad manufactures frame stiffening supports for Corvettes, one of which is a camber brace. He found that if it wasn't strong enough, the front end would still flex, and then throw the other way because it acted like a spring. He uses metal alloy 1.5" square tubing, .25" thick, to make his camber brace. Just some thoughts. If anyone has experience with this brand and it works, this would be a good deal.

I've got one on my car and really like it. I did have to trim the brackets some to fit under the hood (ASCD "SS" hood). Fits nicely over stock TPI or Superram. I'd definitely buy it....especially at $20. I bet this guy bought the rest of the braces from Jamex when they were going out of business here in the US.

My 2 Cents....
To play devil's advocate if you look at it from this angel if he sells all 350 @ $20 plus the amount for shipping he is looking at a cool at around $8,000 that he could walk/run away with. Couple to the fact that this seller has yet to have any feedback! I hope that the only people making a steal are the ones that will be able to pick up the STBs for so cheap if it's legit

Look at where he's hosting the image. The website address is in the same place as where he says he is on Ebay. Plus he sells this stuff on the site. I just think he wants to dump these quick due to the jamex out of business thing and get some easy cash.
BTW Will This work with a TBI SETUP!!!

I was leary of the seller at first. But if you look at his feedback page you'll see he has an "ID Verify" symbol next to his name. Ebay says this about the "ID Verify" symbol:
"Through ID Verify, a user's personal information is cross-checked against consumer and business databases for consistency. ID Verify uses a third party to check the information a user provides and verifies that information for accuracy.
After successfully completing the verification, the user will receive an ID Verify icon in their Feedback Profile. They will also be permitted to sell items and bid in eBay Premier. "
Ebay also says this doesn't guarantee the identity of the individual. But I feel comfortable gambling $30 he is who he says he is and isn't a swindler. Heck, I'm gambling $30 the bar will fit with a Crossfire engine between the strut towers!!!

I'm with traumatech on this one, it looks kind of flimsy to me too. It may be ok for light street use but not for any REAL roadracing or autocross.

Well, he's verified by ebay, has a website which host the pic from the same place. So I figure that he's a good seller.
BUT
It will fit across a Superram, I know that for sure, but will it go on top of a TBI unit or a carb?

Guys with Carb or TBI...no way that's going to fit over the air cleaner. Edelbrock is the only company that produced an STB for those apps that I know of.

Bid on, won and paid for mine already. I've been on E-bay a long time (over 1500 feedbacks). I too was a little leary about his low feedback, but he also takes PayPal which is a good sign. Several checks and balances going on here. We'll see.

I bought one too, money is on the way guess we'll find out. There is also a 91 z28 on ebay for sale that has it. The car is red with white stripes. I think it looks pretty cool.

For $20 ($30 shipped), I got in on it, too. I only got one 'cause I was a bit skeptical. Most braces I've seen are tubular, this one looks flatter, slightly boxed in shape. It MUST be solid...otherwise it'll probably be crap. We'll see..
If it's not that good, I'll put it on my RS and get a better one for my Iroc.

Received mine today and installed it tonight. I have a 327 with a carb and 14" open element air cleaner. I found if I turned the bar so it is vertical it just clears the front of the air cleaner.
Excuse the photo quality, its a $50 digi cam.

Nope no instructions no hardware. but if you set it in place it become pretty obvious. just center it for left and right, and adjust the length till it fits good. I just set it in place then used a center punch to mark the holes. Had a few 3/8 stainless bolts laying around so i used those to bolt it down.
Why's my pic not showing? Works on other boards.

I got mine today. Not to bad for 30 bucks. Polished up nice.
Install looks pretty straight forward. Line it up and drill the holes.

Just got mine today, installation was a breeze. For 30 bucks I'm impressed. The way I have it now it just clears the aircleaner, later on I may turn it like chevymad did. I like it though, heres a quick pic I took...

they do look easy to install, but do they make a difference? Are they made out of heavy steel and solid, or are they hollow? It's kind of tough to tell the shape of the bar from the pictures so far. And how much do they weigh?
#26
got mine today, i bought 2 one for a friend, anyway it is a solid bar, it'll flex a little but not a lot, just think of what a wonder bar did and how strong are they? well anyway, it'll be a long time before i get to put it on mine but i was like, i cant beat it for 20 bucks so anyway

Got mine the other day. Haven't installed it yet but I made sure it will fit on my Crossfire by using putty to hold it in place then carefully shutting the hood. Nothing had moved when I reopened the hood so I guess it fits! Next stop - drill & bolts!

So what's the verdict?
Do they really stiffen the car noticably or just look good?
Has anyone taken some hard corners with one?
I need a STB, but I drive pretty hard, and may be better off getting a 3 point, but if the Jamex actually stiffens the chassis noticeably I may try to get one, the price sure is right.
But it just looks flimsy to me so far.
Comments?

I haven't installed mine yet, but there's only 2 things I don't like:
1- The mounts are red,
2- The brace bolt slots are oval...leaves room for movement,
other thatn that,

Installed mine on my TA, fit was good and hardly would I call it flimsy. For $30 I'm happy.

Damn Dave, that looks great. I was gonna repaint the brackets anyway and use a different assortment of nuts/bolts that were supplied...maybe go to all stainless.

just wanted to say i put mine on today. I've got a TBI with a 14" open element with 2 1/2" air cleaner and the brace just fits over it. i noticed a difference right away, but i also have t-tops, so that might be why. much impressed, very pleased, and recommend this STB to anyone looking for an inexpensive mod.
