MSD 6Al & plugs- regular or platinum?

Any concerns either way? I have run Splitfires for the past 8 years, and have had no problems- until I got my MSD box. Seems like the MSD 6AL box (with Blaster SS coil) attacks the center electrode of the Splitfires! The center electrode on all is worn down at an angle. The center electrode is "tallest" at the open end of the gap, and "shortest" at the closed end of the gap, facing the ground electrode. That makes the gap become huge!

(And I know someone's going to be a jerk and tell me "Splitfires are junk, only idiots use them"- I've never had a problem with them (engine damage my ***!), and I have my reasons for using them- I've posted them many times, and if you're interested, you can do a search.)

So, I was going to go back to regular 'ol AC plugs. But, should I go to platinums? Or shouldn't I? I change plugs every year, no matter if I bought a "super platinum titanium diamond tipped plug", so longevity isn't that much of a concern. I'd never run a plug 100,000 miles, but that's just me.

Thanks!

The only thing platinum does for you is make the plug last longer. I wouldnt waste the money if you're changing them every year anyway. I've also read where the platinum plugs don't have quite as hot a spark as regular plugs. The reasoning is that if it's easier for the spark to jump the gap then the voltage doesnt climb as high. Lower voltage=colder spark

Those multiple capacitive discharge sparks sure eat electrodes don't they?! lol. Especially on plugs like splitfire or rapidfire. The set of rapidfires I tried showed noticable wear after only a week on mine. I was using an msd6a and a jacobs ultra coil. I currently use autolite but have nothing against stock AC plugs either.

I seem to remember reading to NOT use platinum plugs with MSD type systems.

No kidding! Glad to hear I'm not the only one who's electrodes are disappearing. Thanks too, for the tip about the Rapidfires. I was told I should try them, but if that electrode's going to get eaten too, then I won't bother. How are your regular plugs doing?

And yeah, Rob, I could've sworn I heard that too. (That's why I'm asking.) I think it'll be a regular set of plugs for me this spring...

Thanks!

For me a yearly change on the regular plugs seems to work just fine. They're worn but not extremely like the performance plugs.

I've always used regular ol' AC Delco on mine. They seem to be holding up fine.
