Starter won’t engage

So I was dropping the dizzy in on my engine and I was bumping the key to do it and all of a sudden it just stops even trying. When I turn the key, no click, no nothing. I’m pretty confused, if I jiggle the key to a certain spot it turns the fan and lights off like it’s pulling power to the starter but it still doesn’t even try to start. I tried jumping across the solenoid with a screwdriver and it didn’t work but I’m not sure I got a good connection on it because the headers are in the way. Any ideas?

If the car has a tilt steering column, place the wheel in the highest position, This can help take up any slack in the ignition switch linkage.

Re: Starter won’t engage

Sounds like a bad connection in a battery cable, or possibly even internal to the batt.

Check / clean / renew the connections at both ends of both batt cables first.

made sure both connections on the battery were tight and it’s reading like 13ish volts so it’s giving power. Maybe the cable itself could be messed up?
