i have had great experiance with the GM 602 crate motor. votec heads flat top pistons kinda small cam but i ran a 4bbl holley 750 on it and it makes awsome power and unbelievable torque. its really reliable to.

Re: experiences with company crate engines?
if you want a complete engine i would order a gm crate with the warranty you cant be to wrong,i only have experience with one other crate engine and that was a patriot and it was not what it was suppose to be and had to have it taken out and had it redone by sprouse performance engine, the machine work on the engine was sloppy to say the least and the cam and lifters were wore out in the few miles that i had run it but the heads and intake and crank assy.are good, find you a good engine shop that will build you what you want and will let you see all the parts that are going into the engine and will stand behind their work and you will more likely much happier with it and for less money,if you are near south carolina i will be happy to point you to sprouse for some serious hp.jplp

Re: experiences with company crate engines?
I bought a GMPP 350 H.O. three years ago from Summit Racing. It is not in my camaro, but in my "79" Chevy 4x4 short bed stepside truck with 3.23 gears and a th350 transmission. I cannot complain about the power, this truck is a blast to drive in mud, snow, what have you. I would not think twice about putting one in my thirdgen if that time comes. To me it has been a very good engine, with a good warranty to boot. Randy

I bought my ZZ4 from Scoggin Dickey back in 2002 and have been pleased ever since, and they will price match last time i checked. They offer everything from gen1 SBC's to LS series motors.

It's too bad you couldn't custom order a crate engine from GM. That would be nice!

my 350HO has been running well for the last 6 yrs. No complaints. I'd probably buy an gen 3 or 4 engine this time around though.

By building one locally, you have way more recourse for action if the build goes south shortly after running it, out of country purchase, your pooched!

I looked into it before getting my build going..... by the time you factor in shipping, Canadian pricing, rip off duty tax, import fees, etc, etc etc, it comes out way more than getting a very high end local builder to build you one.

made in the usa, edelbrock? might as well be forigen, becasue everything but their intakes are relabled products like the screw whipple chargers they have out, and junk heads etc. just dont flow like they claim, and don't get me started about their crappy carbs, i swear everytime i see an edelbrock crate engine or part pop out on tv shows, i turn the channel, especially buildup shows like horsepower tv..
like vic edelbrock says, "made here in the usa" but that dosen't mean they are better, and once he realizes that, then maybe they will start trying to make better products. just my .02 cents
