Re: Differences between hinge repair kits
Part of the difference is that heat treated/machined bolt. The quality of the steel looks way better than the doorman piece. The 12pt nuts & bronze bushings also add to the cost/quality.The remaing price diff has more to do with profit/overhead.
2¢.
I bought the same kit as Ron some 15yrs ago.Still waiting to use it too.

Re: Differences between hinge repair kits
I think this description of the TDS pin's says a lot =
Kit Contents: (2) Shouldered machined 4041 steel pins, electoless nickel plated for improved lubricity and corrosion protection. (2) Machined Phosphor Bronze flanged bushings, (2) Aerospace 12 point high tensile nuts.
I like it when they can print that kind of information.
Just the nuts alone will tell the story. The other kits look like there's came from a hardware store.
I highly recommend the "spring" tool.

Re: Differences between hinge repair kits
I've used both and would use the Dorman kit again. I purchase the TDS greasable kit about 5 years ago and loved it. However, I do believe it is overkill. The Dorman kit is under $10 and having installed them last weekend I'd say save your money.
