1LE, not impressed

I have an '85 TA that i put '84 camaro disc out back, the 1LE up front. Cross drilled and vented rotors with carbon metallic pads, the 1LE proportioing valve and the disc/drum master and am not that impressed with the brakes should i go with the disc/disc master or am i just to picky about my car??!

I never really liked Perf Friction pads, but here's something to try. Bed them.

5 maximum braking stops from 30mph, then 5 more at 50mph. We're talking as hard as you can brake without locking them. You should feel the brakes start to hook pretty good before this exercise is over.

Take it home and park it, let 'em cool to ambient temperature, then they're bedded properly and ready for use.

When I used PF pads, I found that after the car sat for a while I had to repeat the bedding process to get decent performance from them.

I later switched to Hawk HPS, but even cheapo Bendix street pads from Advance Auto gave better and more consistent performance than PF street pads.

You put 84 camaro disc brakes out back, you were probably better off with the drums. The 1LE MC and disc drum combo valve is kinda confusing to me though.

The 1LE and a disc/drum master cylinder are the same parts, no difference.

Poster, how long have you had the brakes installed and been driving the car? It takes a while for the brake rotors and pads to become accustomed to each other, as mentioned they need to bed in. Give it some time. And if you haven't done it already, install the recall kit in those rear calipers as they probably don't work.

Those pads are terrible. They have no initial bite. You have to give good pedal pressure before they come to life.

^^ What he said. My PFC pads need to warm up a decent amount with a lot of pedal pressure before grabbing. They grab fairly well when the finally do though. Still haven't bought the Stillen pads I keep saying I'm going to. $150 for front/rear pads hurts when you think about it (no need for a comment from the other Dean, who has a thousand dollars worth of pads laying on his floor... )

PFCM pads suck...scared the hell out of me. I run EBCs on my Iroc and they are indeed good but dust WAAAYYYY too much for me. I have a set of Hawk HPS for my truck, we'll see how those do dust wise.

i had perf fric. on before with the stockers and they seemed to bite better than the 1LE 's i still wonder if im right with the disc/drum master and it just feels like it grabs all in the front, and thats my concern. are the '84 rear calipers all that bad cuz' i was gonna switch to '97 calipers??? what u guys think??

I'd ditch those '84 calipers for the '97s in a heartbeat, the older calipers just aren't reliable.
