Car: 1988 Camaro IROC-Z
Engine: L98 350 TPI
Transmission: WC-T5
Axle/Gears: 2.73:1 Open
1988 Camaro IROC-Z - lots of extras $5000obo
Cliffnotes:
L98 350ci TPI V8, '113 Casting Aluminum Heads, ~30k miles on rebuild
WC-T5 tranmission <1k miles on rebuild
2.73:1 Ring/Pinion, Open differential (though 3.73 Auburn Posi goes with it) ~15k miles on rebuild
Dynamic EFI engine tuning system with Toshiba Laptop
173k miles
After 11 years and much debating, I have finally decided to sell my Camaro. This car has taken me on too many adventures to count, from one side of the country to the other multiple times, and will be sorely missed. I hope that its new owner cherishes it as much as I have.
With that said, here are the details of the car, its origin, modifications I have made along the way, and extra parts (original and high performance) that go along with it (for the right price).
The car is a 1988 Camaro IROC-Z, built in November 1987. This particular model was the base IROC-Z package, having been ordered with a 305ci TBI (Throttle Body Injection) V8 engine and a 700-R4 automatic transmission. When I purchased it, it had ~140k miles listed on the odometer, though I cannot attest to its accuracy. The previous owner installed 3.42 gears, and never changed the speedometer gear in the transmission tailhousing to accurately reflect speed/distance. The previous owner also replaced the 305 with an L98 350 long block (used in the Corvette and as the top-of-the-line engine in the IROC-Z Camaros) and '113 casting aluminum cylinder heads. As it sits now, the car has ~173k miles. This may sound like a lot, but keep reading.
Since I have owned the car, I have completely rebuilt the engine (approx. 30k miles ago) with upgraded parts (listed below), swapped the 700-R4 automatic for a WC-T5 transmission from a 1989 Trans Am, rebuilt the WC-T5 transmission (less than 1k miles ago) and had the rear axle rebuilt (approx. 15k miles ago, currently has 2.73 gears and an open differential, though 3.73s and an Auburn posi go with the car -- be sure to read all included parts at the end.) Most of the original parts have been stored since removal, and go with the car -- just in case you want to put it back to stock.
During the engine rebuild, the car was converted over from TBI to TPI (Tuned Port Injection) found on Corvettes and high performance Camaros of the time. This was done using a Dynamic EFI system, allowing for complete control over engine tuning. For the right price, my tuning laptop and wideband O2 sensor go with the car. Please look into Dynamic EFI, they have a wonderful system for this generation Camaro/Firebird and Bob R.'s customer service is top notch. If the laptop is not desired, I can copy the software to a USB drive so you can use your own laptop.
With regard to the current parts on the car, here is the list:
Engine:
Keith Black Hypereutectic Pistons, 4.00" Bore
Eagle Forged Connecting Rods
Crower Camshaft, 204* Duration, .494" Intake, .505" Exhaust
Crower Valvesprings (designed to match the cam) and new retainers
Mildly ported '113 Casting Aluminum Heads with 3 angle valve job
Melling High Volume Oil Pump
Stock 350 L98 Block, stock 350 crankshaft -- engine is still 350ci
180* Thermostat
Low temp. Radiator Fan Switch (car runs at 190*F consistently)
Tuned Port Injection Intake Manifold, runners, plenum, mildly ported and matched to cylinder heads
Bosch 32lb fuel Injectors
Adjustable Fuel Pressure Regulator
EP-381 Fuel Pump from Turbo Trans Am -- not engine, but noteworthy. Outperforms all aftermarket Walbro pumps I ever had
K&N Air Filter
Exhaust:
Hooker Shorty Headers and Y-Pipe
High Flow 3" catalytic convertor
Edelbrock 3" catback exhaust
Transmission:
World Class T-5 5 speed manual transmission, recently rebuilt
Drivetrain:
GM 7.5/7.65" Differential, 2.73:1 Ring/pinion with Open Differential
Entertainment:
Aftermarket Stereo Receiver (believe it's Alpine) with CD player and Auxiliary inputs (6.5mm audio jack and USB)
Other parts done recently are:
Repainted in original Flame Red Metallic (3 coats color, 3 coats clear), wetsanded, buffed and polished. There is no wax on the car in any of these pictures -- the paint is too fresh.
Front Struts, Rear Shocks
Front brake pads, rotors and bearings
Upgraded driveshaft U-joints
Cooper Cobra Tires, 235/60R15 (less than 10k miles)
Front end alignment
Additional parts to go with the car:
Eiback Lowering Springs, front and rear
3.73:1 Ring/Pinion with Auburn Posi Differential
Original TBI system
Original exhaust manifolds with AIR system
Original Automatic Shifter/Pedals
B&M 2400 Stall convertor
Extra Clutch for WC-T5
Extra serpentine belt setup, including alternator, power steering pump, and smog pump
Alternate rear spoiler (duck tail style) -- common on all other Camaros. This car comes with a rather rare spoiler only issued on 1988 models.
4 Wheel Disc Brakes from 2001 Chevrolet Blazer , compatible with this car with some modification
Toshiba Laptop -- for engine monitoring/tuning
Wideband Oxygen sensor and controller, with software -- for more accurate engine tuning than stock Narrowband
In all, this car has had significant upgrades done to it while in my possession. Although it has a few miles, the engine, transmission, and rear axle have all been rebuilt within the past 30k miles. There are other Camaros currently available for sale for less money, but require more work. For somebody interested in a fast, fun car for much less money than I have in it and plenty of extra go-fast parts, this is the car for them. I hope that the new owner treats it well, and appreciates it as I have. The car truly has a character all to itself, and will be missed.

Re: 1988 Camaro IROC-Z - lots of extras $5500obo
I just checked it out to look, trying to sell mine too because I have to and thought it would have sold by now. Of course I did have someone say they were going to buy it twice and had a deal they backed out of.

With regard to the 'useless' information, some may see it that way. Others may find it incredible useful, or perhaps they can read between the lines - I have done everything within my ability to care for this car, and wish for its next owner to do the same.
Thanks for your time.

Wow, some of you guys are kinda hard on the seller...if you don't like the car, why do you need to trash his ad saying things like "to many useless parts on the car"? and "too much information"?? WTF is wrong with you people? It's his car to sell, if you don't like it, just move on, why post negative things??
Hey OP, your car, and PARTS you have added look sweet, too bad I just bought an IROC a month ago, or we would be having a phone conversation right now.
Good luck man, don't let the negative and ignorant comments get to you.
Mike

I would suggest posting some pics of the car waxed now, if paint was too fresh before.

The guy did asked for input...
So many views, so little offers? Well, some, maybe many miss our long gone babies!
If I could spare the $5500, I just might go for it. Gotta put that 3.73 in tho... neck puller there.
Overall good ad. All the back story shows the love.

I'm the last one to understand it... Love 3rd gen, but you got a $3k car. Had to sell mine for $1,000... Minor tranny noise, $10+k in it. Nobody seems to want these except us! Your local craigslist or just a sign on it might get you the best price.

I'll hang on to it before I let it go for $3k. Thanks for sharing the experience.

If I didn't pick up mine before winter I would be talking to you. Hope you sell it. I love that it doesn't have power options and its a 350 T5. Would be a great car for autocross which is what I bought mine for.
Upgrade all the suspension and put big brakes on and it would be a good time.
Goodluck!
