LS2 or LS3 swap

Hey guys, joinned a while back planning on doing an LS swap. Other things have taken priority since then, but after doing some research, I'm beginning to start stripping my car. I'm either going to start building an LS2 or LS3 stroker (408 or 418 not really sure if the power difference is worth the price difference) with most likely a 4l80e. Just wondering if these will be more of a headache than your standard LS1 swap. I plan on getting it down to just body and chassis, but I've heard of people using a different chassis and was wondering if that was worth it as well. I'm planning on caging it as well, it does have t-tops. I know for sure I'm going with all new suspension and brakes and steering, not really too sure the best places to start looking. Anyway, thanks in advance.

Re: LS2 or LS3 swap

For a stroker, probably not much difference.
LS2 is really a "tweener". It's a Gen IV (24X), but can be used as a Gen III ("411" computer) and has the cathedral heads vs the rectangular heads (58x). There's much more aftermarket help with the 411, but original ecm can be used effectively as well = DBW pedal.
Do your research so you're making an informed choice, but both are excellent.

Yea, once I choose the direction I'm going the only issue I'm coming a cross is a lot of the smaller stuff for the car, such as steering, brakes, suspension etc... I'm sure research would point me in the right direction as far as what would be best for the swap/car.

LS2 is just an aluminum block LQ4/9. You'll spend a lot more getting that than a cast iron 6.0. But, if that's important to you, go for it.

Re: LS2 or LS3 swap

It depends on the parts you intend to reuse.

If buying aftermarket heads, it doesn't matter as much.

If keeping the factory heads/intake, the LS3 will be better performance wise, especially on a stroker engine.

Re: LS2 or LS3 swap

Yea I've been looking for aluminum block for a decent price, I'd go used if I'm going to machine it anyways. I'm in no rush to finish the motor, I'll be building it as I'm getting the car ready.

Re: LS2 or LS3 swap

Both can handle most any top/bottom end combo, so grab whatever your budget allows and rock on

24x vs 58x is a question for your tuner as both can go either way, esp if its a ground up build
