Dodge V10
Hello,
I'm Steven, I'm 18, my new step-dad is already on here as cosmick, and I have always liked fast cars, the IROC-Z Camaros included.
I want something unique, that can be quick for cheap, and be even faster later on. I haven't yet learned to drive a manual, but I'll be learning on a SM465, which I'm not likely to hurt, or so I've been told.
I'm a gamer, electronics are my whole world, or they have been, but dating in my mom's minivan feels weird.
I like my new step-dad, we get along well, he's not going to build this car for me, and he warned me that everyone will say I should start with a 350, and I can get it on the road sooner for cheaper. But I can drive his '94 Camaro for now, even if it is slow, it's still better than mom's Caravan, but it doesn't really stand out.
If you want to see the car, search the threads started by cosmick. I'll add pics of the V10 as soon as I get one.
This isn't going to be a fast build, with progress every week, but I should be updating every month.

Re: Dodge V10
You're right; no one is going to recommend an iron Dodge truck V10.
An aluminum late model truck LS V8 is where it's at these days. There are all kinds of parts to make it a pretty simple swap and the dollar / power ratio is really good.
Enjoy your project. Don't get frustrated; just get a little bit done each week, 15 minutes at a time if you must. A lot can be accomplished.

Re: Dodge V10
Do a lot of research before you start buying anything.
the v10 is different but would be very impractical as a swap and will require a lot of hardship for the money invested.
the sm465 is a very strong trans, but its a truck trans with a granny low and no overdrive, wont shift quickly like a car trans and it too tall to even fit the car.
its your car and can be whatever you want it to be but be realistic and do a lot of research before jumping into anything

Re: Dodge V10
He says he can do whatever fabrication may prove unavoidable, and after seeing the L36-powered '83 RX-7 he built, I believe it.
We're going with a 47RE trans for my V10 Iroc fake.
Other than that, I appreciate you guys all giving friendly comments, please continue.

Re: Dodge V10
Last night we did some spreadsheets, to choose gearing for the rear axle, and after a lot of explanations and some simulation in Gran Tourismo, we're going with 3.08s.

Dodge v10 into a f-body has been done before. Not sure if it ever got finished but there was someone on here a few years ago that did the swap.

Re: Dodge V10
You know I started a motor swap when I was 18.. Had a decent mechanical background and like the OP my dad has been a mechanic/fabricator for 30+ years. I started with big dreams of twin turbos and lots of power. LS and T56 swap etc etc etc. I can honestly say that I am 4 years in now with decently hot sbc 350 that is installed and horribly untuned. I thought the turbos and all else would be simple and I could do it for cheap, mostly because Orr and others on this board made it seem so simple.
Keep your dreams alive, but understand that I was in the same boat and 3 years later I was 3+ grand into a HSR 355 after abandoning the impossible project (at least at the time) of LS1/T56 and turbos. I have seen I think 2 different people on here attempt the V10 and both ended up giving up on it. Not because it can't be done but because there is no point. Having the knowledge I do now I don't understand why anyone would do anything but an LS in these cars. As far as V8s are concerned they are on the simpler side as far as swapping into these cars go and for the power and cost they literally can't be beat.

I can do the swap, but I'm going to have him help with the labor. We're going to Pick-N-Pull tomorrow. If no luck there, then Tear-A-Part on Thursday, Pull-A-Part on Friday, all the others on Saturday. It's time to get it in before snow arrives.

Re: Dodge V10
As we had no luck with those plans, he went and wasted $214 on a new Nintendo DS3 just because they now offer it in a gold color. Looks to me like a bad omen.
If we find one this weekend, he won't have the money for it, he just lost most of what he had, on a lousy way to sort of simulate what he could be building and dating in. I'm disappointed.

Re: Dodge V10
We still haven't found one, but before we decided to try this I was finding but leaving about one per month. I'm trying to trade my '94 Camaro for a '95 S-Blazer, if they can find the ignition key, so if I get that I'll no longer need my S-10, as my MIL just bought a '95 Ranger. So my 4.8 in my S-10 may end up in this car, before my S-10 goes to scrap.
