Re: 1LE Pricing or Value?

Wes: 1LE with A/C, how unusual. It's probably worth starting a new thread over.

Good taste in cars by the way, you have a pretty nice fleet going on.

Re: 1LE Pricing or Value?

1LE with AC is because it's a B4C. The police want comfort when patrolling.

Yes it was a Texas state trooper persuit car. Still has the tag riveted in the door jamb.

RARE
1992 B4C "Police" 1LE Camaro

Very well documented car and low original miles!

Click on the arrow in the picture below to see video that includes more photos.
Double click on the arrow below to go to full screen.

1992 B4C/1LE Camaro
When it comes to the 1992 Camaros, everybody would most likely agree that this is truly a great looking car. Back in 1992 some people even compared it to the earlier Ferrari looks and no doubt a lot of the styling cues were copied and taken off of the earlier Ferrari California roadsters. The big thing when it comes to Camaros is how they are optioned out. The more and better the options, the more desirable the Camaro. Well, the 1992 Camaro listed in this auction should have you sitting up and taking notice.
The car in this ad could be one of the rarest 1992 Camaros being that it is a B4C/1LE Camaro, more commonly known as a “Police Camaro”. The police Camaros were outfitted with everything for acceleration and high speed. According to the general lore there are only five police Camaros that did not see the rough and abusive and high mileage service that all the other police Camaros did. These five were not turned over to the police but fell into private hands. Yes! Yes!! The Camaro in this ad is a Police Camaro that did not go into police service according to its current owner. It has been in private collections.
BC4 OPTIONS is a “Special Service” option car that is designed for high-speed pursuit, incorporating top speed and great handling and braking, all in a package that is reliable and heavy duty as you could ever get. It is said that only 589 total police Camaros were made in 1992 and again according to the Internet, only five went into private hands outside the law enforcement community. At the time these were said to be the fastest police cars ever. Again, according to Internet research, the 1LE means that the car is equipped with the special brakes and suspensions and not all BC4 cars were equipped with ILE package. It is believed that the car in this ad has just about every option that a B4C/1LE could have including the leather interior.
The private seller has provided the following information.
1992 B4C/1LE Camaro
One of 589 made.
10,003 Original miles.
Arctic White Paint
Gray leather interior (very rare on a B4C intended for the highway patrol fleet).
B2L 5.7 TPI 350/ 4L60 corvette auto transmission.
Power Windows
Electric Rear Hatch Release
Power Steering
Never issued to a highway patrol unit.
Always in private collections since leaving Van Nuys.
A previous owner put an aluminum driveshaft in it. It has the dual battery option as well. The 105 amp/hr alternator works well.
Has a Corsa cat-back that sounds great and looks original.
Recently detailed by a paint specialist. He mentioned a chip on the drivers mirror and a chip to the front spoiler. Always stored inside, never driven in rain. Paint shines like new. Still smells new inside.
Factory crayon marks still visible on inspection points.
Full museum quality documentation on all four (4) owners.
Window sticker shows Chevrolet Special Service Package with 5.7 TPI, build sheet, 1st in class trophy at Firebird Raceway included.
Owner states that he has two (2) sets of wheels and tires for the car.
Chrome Z-28 wheels with brand new BFG Z rated radials on car. Original rims with original Gatorbacks.
The seller went to the trouble and expense to have professional photos taken of his car and if you take a look at the photos and the video we think you will agree this is one fine, low miles, rare, well-documented collector vehicle.
If you are into rare Camaros or if you are looking to add a very rare car to your collection, this is an excellent opportunity! Even if you are new to collecting this is a great car to start with because of its great documentation and the reserve is low enough that everybody can bid. Most people don’t even know about this model because it was kept under the hat, unlike some of the Ford police cars. Again, if you are looking to add one of the rarest Camaros to your garage, not to mention one of the fastest and best handling Camaros, take a hard look at this car because they just about never come available for sale.

Re: 1LE Pricing or Value?

Disregard all the goofy deletes, it was an upgrade brake deal, that brought the stopping power up to where it should have been from the start. Never saw the attraction to this brake package.

However true, you speak to people that have driven a 1LE car and many seem to say that there is something more to it than "just the brakes." Bruce Hawkins swears he could drive a 1LE and a regular car and he could tell you which one is the 1LE without reading the SPID sheet, or hitting the brakes. Other than the brakes, the replacement/service parts are the same as the regular car, IE the springs, shocks, but who is to say that they had special parts from the factory, or had a special touch that the regular cars did not get. This is conjecture, nor do I hold this to be gospel, but it is possible.

I know I can get a 1LE front brake setup for my car for around $700... I am really thinking about doing it on my Convertible...

Re: 1LE Pricing or Value?

Mine is a high milage< got the carfax Tx. DPS owned up to 73,xxx mile being state vehicle hopefully the garage/office it was based from kept fresh oil and changed all fluids and followed owners manual.
I posted the VIN and RPO above, clear blue title but title says Camaro Z28. Is this correct or should I be concerned. Not trying make any money it will be my son's dd(maybe haha) I am new to 3rd gens but this car drives and shifts great. Slowest car in my fleet or as my wife bitches about my used car lot.
Car needs work to get it to be showroom and the prices of parts are crazy but more I search around the better. Example Classic Industries wants 79.99 per hood strut, found the some on Rockauto.com form 8.99 to about 15.99 a piece.
I have communicated with some very helpful people here so far and look forward to bugging you guys for help!!!

Re: 1LE Pricing or Value?

Careful with some of those cheepo hod struts. I bought a set for my 87, they had the 1 year warranty. They would not last 2 weeks before they would not work any more. I paid double for the lifetime warranty ones, and they are still working 2 years later.

Regarding hood struts...

I have bought the most expensive I could find, from a Chevy dealer and the cheapest I could find, from Walmart and everything in between. They all seem to have a similar life span.

YMMV

Re: 1LE Pricing or Value?

I think AutoZone had the 1 year ones for $15, and the lifetime was $25

Like I said, the Mightylift ones I had in the past were great, lasted for years, but this last batch 2 years ago, only lasted 2 weeks (no joking) I was becoming quite the expert in how to pop them off, by myself. I finally asked if they had a better one, and it was only $10 more each, I had to wait a few days because they were a "special order"...

Re: 1LE Pricing or Value?

Short attention spans here.

The 10k mile 92 B4C is stuck at 11,600 with a day & a half to go - are those being viewed as less valuable than a straight Z28? We've seen low mile Z's get more than that!

It is hard to say, I think a lot of people view ex-police cars as being thrashed more than a regular car. Police cars are usually not driven slowly.

Re: 1LE Pricing or Value?

In regards to the hood struts, I put a set of AZ on one of my cars around 20yrs ago and they are just now getting soft in the colder months.. I also leave my cars with the hoods open in the garage after I drive them, not sure if that helps or not buuuttt

Re: 1LE Pricing or Value?

For collectors, the car's been tampered with. It has aftermarket wheels, although they say the originals come with it, it has aftermarket exhaust and they state that a previous owner added the aluminum driveshaft. What else was done to the car that they aren't disclosing.

The price is good and I'd like to be interested, but I can't.

Re: 1LE Pricing or Value?

Two more on e-bay at the moment - both 91's and both red.

5.7 with 3800 miles $10,655 with 3 days to go:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/161793008461?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
1991 Camaro Z/28 Factory Racer Package 1LE
1-Owner / GM Delco Products Employee Special Ordered
Original Everything Except The Battery
Never Damaged / Never Repainted / Non Smoker / Original Goodyear Tires / Heated Storage Since New / Original Papers From Bill of Sale To Window Sticker / Documented Mileage / Still Smells New!
Note: G92 ordered WITH A/C was classifieds as a Street vehicle.
G92 ordered
WITHOUT A/C was classifieds as Race series.

This is The A/C Delete Factory Race Series Z/28

Package consisted of (G92 Ordered Without A/C) [Race Vehicle]:

  • Aluminum driveshaft (JG1) (part # 10085375)
  • G80 Differential with limited slip with 3.42 posi rear
  • G92 Rear axle performance package
  • Big front brakes adapted from the Corvette
  • Larger (11.86 inch) front rotors (part # 18016035)
  • Larger front spindles (part #'s 18016737 / 18016738)
  • PBR front, dual-piston aluminum calipers (part #'s 10132827 / 10132828)
  • Special swinging fuel pickup in gas tank and special 18 gallon baffled fuel tank for fuel pickup down to .5 gallon reserve to prevent fuel starvation in hard cornering
  • specific front and rear shock absorbers
  • Lower control arms (part # 10164151)
  • Special deflected disc shocks
  • Air conditioning delete (C41) (standard heater) (weight savings and better air flow to the radiator)
  • Fog lamp delete (to release the air intake located behind)
  • T-Tops delete
  • Power accessories delete
  • Aluminum spare wheel with smaller spare tire (N64)
  • A Few RARE ones came with special 16" x 8" light alloy mesh wheels (XWL)

Chevrolet built 478 Z28 Coupes with "1LE" equipment for 1991. As in 1989 and 1990, Ordering the RPO G80 Limited-slip rear axle & G92 RPO G92 triggered the build. RPO G92 required one of two engine combinations, the 305ci LB9 V8 with 5-speed manual, or the 350ci B2L V8 with 4-speed automatic transmission. When ordered with air conditioning, RPO G92 ($466) included engine oil cooler, 4-wheel disc brakes (except for a brief period when 4-wheel discs were deleted with a $287 credit), and dual-converter exhaust. When ordered without air conditioning, RPO G92 ($675) added heavy-duty front brakes, aluminum driveshaft and spare wheel, special shocks and fuel pickup, and gas tank baffle. Fog lamps were deleted for weight savings and improved cooling.
Chevrolet built 478 Z28 Coupes with "1LE" equipment for 1991. The exact amount of true 1LE's is not known this year as a majority of the 478 units were "B4C" Special Service (or Police package) That makes the actual 1LE cars sold to the public was much less than the 478 1LE Camaros Built. This is also a 350 Tuned Port 1LE G92 AC Delete Factory Racer

5.7 with 460 Miles - $18,100 with four days to go.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/281773555009?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

1991 Camaro Z-28 1-LE
1 of 478 built in 1991... all were built at the Van Nuys California plant
If you are looking at this car you already know the 1-LE story-very few comfort options to keep weight down-it was about performance
B2L 5.7 350 with dual catalytic converters 245 hp-Performance rear axle
Aluminum Drive Shaft and spare wheel, fuel tank baffles to prevent starving in hard driving
No fog lamps either-too much weight and improved cooling without them.
Heavy duty cooling-bigger sway bars.....
Bright red exterior/Red cloth interior
460 miles from new
Always properly stored and maintained in a heated building
Never any mice or critter issues
A former Black Hawk museum car
Have info on the previous 4 owners who were all dealers
When I purchased the car it had 420 miles showing-now 460 miles on the clock
It's major voyage was to a local Chevy dealer who wanted to fill his showroom with F body's for the introduction of
the 2010 Camaro-the other miles are basically short little trips to keep things loose-fluids always maintained
Fuel injectors have been replaced along with the fuel pump for obvious reasons-Car runs out very well-no trans issues
I have owned this car almost 10 years,It's time for someone else to be the Caretaker ....A very unique well cared for vehicle
These cars are now coming up on being 25 years old-Hard to believe but they are-If you have been watching the auctions these cars are being recognized and it's no secret the lower the mileage the higher the price.
Thanks for your interest

Re: 1LE Pricing or Value?

I found this car on CL in Phoenix

It's a 1992 Camaro 1LE B4C 5.7L Auto 153K

It's been modified but seems to have the original engine and tranny

It will need work to restore but has a straight body.

He wants 3500 to 4500 depending on extras. It does come with a salvage title.

Might be a good starting point for someone.

Pretty sure it's listed on the board here too BJ. Good deal to get into a very rare car.

Re: 1LE Pricing or Value?

Talk about slow appreciation values, Corvettes for the last 35 years lag our cars by quite a bit. Except for the truely rare ones, They sell for a fraction of the original price. A 1980 - 1992 Vette with 35K miles will sell for less than a 100K Formula, TA or Camaro with a 5L engine!

Anyone want to venture a guess on what one of the 4 1988 1LE cars would sell for?

Yep, its mine. Unfortunately if it doesn't sell by the time the weather breaks, it will be torn down and parted out.

Nice thing about most of AZ... no rust... Bad thing is the rubber seals are probably dried out.

Re: 1LE Pricing or Value?

From the article
"Six 1LEs were built for 1988" Why do I keep thinking there was 4 IROCs and 3 Trans Ams?

Re: 1LE Pricing or Value?

I actually think I have seen that car at a local car show, it was about 12-14 years ago now, but I remember the guy stating it was a 1989 1LE, and it was Blue. Being that the plates are in MI, it may be...

As John stated above, 90-92 F-bodys all got the 1LE tank. I pick them up for cheap at local JYs. (I try to get them from 91-92 cars and i also test the fuel level sender)
