Anyone else on here planning on going to cruising the coast this year Oct 5-11? If you haven't been its a Mecca for classic and American muscle cars you should really come down and check it out. Huge cruise ins and swap meets, entertainment,etc.. Would love to see more of those 3rd-gens this year im looking forward to it.

Re: Cruising the Coast 2015

This is a great regional show but they made one change this year that disappoints me. The rule was that they would only register cars that were 25 years old or older (unless you belonged to one of the sponsoring clubs). This year they changed the rule to read "only cars made in 1989 and before" are allowed to register.

I have a 91 TA that would typically qualify in 2016 under the rule that had been in place for years. Now I will not be able to register for the 2016 show - very disappointing. It bothers me more since a third of our 3rd gen cars will be blocked from registering. As a secondary note, they have now essentially eliminated the Pontiac factory (ASC) convertibles built in 91 and 92 from displaying their cars.

I plan to write to the organizing body explaining this and attempting to get the rule changed back. I hope that this bothers you as much as it bothers me and will do the same.

Re: Cruising the Coast 2015

That is disappointing. Considering how much its grown I can understand it from the organizer's perspective. I thought if you had a vehicle deemed in the muscle car genre you were registration eligible.

It is an event for classic cars.. Its still nice to ride and look at all the classic cars even if you don't enter.

Re: Cruising the Coast 2015

What makes a 1989 TA more of a classic than my 91 TA? I think all 3rd Gens, Birds and Camaros, should be allowed entry. If they are getting too many entries and can't accommodate them all, they should consider being model specific. There are not that many model names out there to preclude looking at the whole spectrum and ending the entry model years based on the production life of a qualifying "classic" car. That would result in different model years for different cars but would bring in complete lineups of vehicles worth displaying.

Probably because the next thing you know there would be tens of thousand of new challengers, mustangs, and Camaros crying to get in. And we already see enough of those at every stoplight. Its so many entries already. 25 years in MS qualifies you as a classic car. That's why they have the rule and it seems fair enough.. Sure id love to see all 3rd gens get to register, most can already anyhow. 2 more years and they all can.

Re: Cruising the Coast 2015

What he's is upset about is that the new ruling says only cars made in or before 1989 can enter. So even in two years the car will still be made in 91 and inellegible.

Re: Cruising the Coast 2015

OK, I thought 25yrs old qualified to enter. Didn't know about the "new rule". Then yes I think it should be addressed. ANY antique car as described by the state of MS should be treated as such and allowed to enter.

Re: Cruising the Coast 2015

The thing that bugs me about the 1989 cutoff is that it eliminates all 3rd Gen Pontiac made Convertibles. The only ones that will qualify to enter would be the 87-89 Camaros and custom 82-89 Pontiacs. With only limited production over the 91-92 period, they hardly ever are represented at shows I go to with mine. They always get a lot of attention due to their rarity. Anyway, please, anyone reading this, contact the Cruisin' the Coast organization and help plead our case. Thanks.

Re: Cruising the Coast 2015

Done a lot of things with the car on the bucket list but not this yet I am going to try to make it to this in 2016 now that we have moved 5.5 hours closer....its only a 8 hour drive to get down there now lol. Was looking for any suggestions or tips on spots or things to make sure we get to and do. Last time I was in the Gulfport/Biloxi area was 1979/80 doing my first tech school at Keesler AFB and doing hurricane cleanup from hurricane Frederic.....I am sure things have changed a lot since then hehe
