Front end pop under breaking

I searched but couldn't really find the exact symptom. When I'm coming to a stop, I'm getting a pretty heavy popping noise from what appears to be the left front. This happens just as the car comes to the stop. Not during the application of the brake but just that final last push to bring it to a full stop. Speed is irrelevant as it happens from dead slow to highway speed. Not all the time but probably 80% of the time. I thought maybe it was the front pads but they'd already be in contact with the rotor as this happens at the very last moment of breaking. Turning does not matter either. It also sounds too heavy a sound to be a break pad. Almost sounds like a big spring releasing. I did check my front springs and they are not broken. Also had new ball joints and front end steering components replaced a month ago, but this sound was there before all that. Only happens during braking. Going over bumps or letting off the gas abruptly does not cause the sound.

Re: Front end pop under breaking

Popped the front left tire off and found the outer pad flopping around excessively. Took it off and bent the ears, slapped some lithium on it and went for a drive. Noticeably better. Must be the right side that's loose as well. I didn't think such a small thing could make such a big sound, but I guess once you factor the load force that's involved and the fact it transmits through the frame like a microphone, it can be quite deceiving.

Re: Front end pop under breaking

I'm starting to have this issue as well. Now luckily a buddy of mine went through this on another car so I sort of knew what it could have been. This sort of verifies it now lol, thanks. I'll let you know what I find this weekend.

P.S. I need to rebuild my front end soon ;P
