Where does this hose go to ?

I found this hose hiding down behind the Canister.
My thoughts go to the missing vacuum ball that was below it.

Also my cruse control has never worked because I have not been able to find the hoses that went to it. My vacuum diagram does not show them. Its like they disappeared.
Anyway should all of this be caped off. Are they vacuum leaks . The PO did
cap this off.

Re: Where does this hose go to ?

The black vacuum tube coming out of the rear of the TBI unit should be going to your MAP sensor. The vacuum outlet on the intake manifold should be going to your HVAC unit and the cruise control. Because it is capped off you should not have a vacuum leak, but what is going to your HVAC control?

Re: Where does this hose go to ?

Yes the MAP sensor is new and connected properly.
The air conditioner never worked or even came on for that matter. I don't use it any way so that never bothered me. The ventilation I've never used because I drive with the windows down. The heater works very well and the core has been replaced.

The reason I noticed the large open hose is because I was replacing the Canister Purge Valve.
The hoses were rotting so I figure the valve must look the same inside.
$40.00 bucks for the little sucker. Replaced the hoses and it.
I have read that you might fail SMOG if its not working properly. That I did fail SMOG I'm hopping its part of the problem if not all of it.
So one more time please. Where does the large hose I found behind the canister go ? It almost looks like it went to the top large nipple of the cruse control servo/unit.
I did plug it of all ready.

Also the vacuum hose that went to the small line was replaced with fuel hose because I did not like the fit of the new vacuum line. It just was not tight enough.
Is that going to be a problem ?
Here's the old and new .The old was so bad when you bent it practically crumbled.

A lot of questions here but I'm almost done tracking down and replacing the pieces that could effect SMOG

Re: Where does this hose go to ?

My bad. If the hose can be traced back to a bundle in the harness that heads to the firewall then it is the cruise control brake deactivation hose. I took out the cruise control servo from my '88 TBI 305 and I have a large hose that's sitting behind my canister that leads to the firewall that used to be connecting to the large nipple on the servo.

Re: Where does this hose go to ?

Thanks
I thought it might have gone to the vacuum ball under the car.
Either way its all dead hose. I'm going to block off and cap the hose and nipples on the bellows anyway.

I cant believe after all these years it took failing smog to replace those rotted hoses and valve.
That's not really like me.

Thank you again antares57

What exactly made it fail?

Re: Where does this hose go to ?

Very high NO (PPM)
Max at 15 MPH is 541. I had 867
Max at 25 is 498. I had 620

There's was a lot of things going on that could have contributed to the fail and I have fixed that or replaced them except a new cat . The cat I have now is a 9 year old Magnaflow and with everything else I've found I'm going to bet it fine.
Then I found the rotted out valve were taking about.
Its fixed.

Wait a minute . I just read that after running with a bad Canister Purge Valve for all these years the engine's computer could be operating under pre-programmed information rather than of real-time.
If that's true should I unplug the battery for a few minutes to relearn the fixed valve ?

I just did a major tune up and had the battery disconnected anyway.

Re: Where does this hose go to ?

yes it would be a good idea to do that. had a jeep cherokee that the spark plug electrode broke off and it ran very rough. even after replacing plugs it ran better but still rough. immediately unplugged battery for few minutes and upon start up ran normally. i always reset ecu/pcm on a car after i do any engine or emissions maintenance. i also do it every season on any efi vehicle reguardless.
