What model/year GM's had 416 and 601 casting heads? I'll be heading to the local Pull Apart Friday and want to know which vehicles to source for those castings. What are the valve cover bolt patterns standard or centered?

The valve cover bolt pattern was perimeter for both.
Not sure where you live, but I have a pair of 416's I'd let you have for the cost of shipping.

trucks/vans got the 601s while cars (caprice, cutlass, camaro, etc) got the 416s.
Common as dirt. If you're near Colorado take up 57. you wouldn't even have to blow an afternoon unbolting them in the snow

416 heads ran from like 80-86 and were replaced by the 081 heads for the 1987 model year on ALL LG4 and TPI applications.
The 601 heads ran from 80-86 and were replaced by the 187 heads for the 1987 model year. The engine code changed from LE9 to L03 in trucks.

I'm building a severely budgeted 350. Cleaned and ready 350 std. bore. want to use 305 heads with a fairly high duration (280-290) lunati bracket master cam good to 5500 rpm. and a small runner single plane like the Weiand exelerator or old tm1 torker. Would I be better off with a dual plane? The car will see 30/70 split street/strip duty.
