My Edelbrock headers keep burning my spark plug wires
I have a 5.7 350 tpi v8 with EdelBrock headers . My problem is I keep burning my spark plug wires on the headers themselves . I bought spark plug wire holders but my valve covers are bolted in the center and the holders i got say its for the center bolted but i dont see them working . Does anyone have any suggestions? I am pretty upset because today the wire for 6 caught on fire ..Please

Get some small tie straps and get creative on what to strap the wires to in order to keep them off the headers. If you can find straps to match the color of your wires its not too noticeable. Ive always went that route.

Re: My Edelbrock headers keep burning my spark plug wires
They have heat shield type deals that slide over the wires to prevent the headers burnin the wires get you some of those cover the wire close to the headers tie wrap the rest away from them. Good luck.

First thing to do is figure out why the headers are getting so hot.
Might be the tune or timing.
Anything else is just a band aid.

Otherwise the computer will be making adjustments while you're trying to set it.

Re: My Edelbrock headers keep burning my spark plug wires
if your wires are custom fit for you Camaro, then that's your problem. i'll bet it's the wires with the straight boots that are getting fried, correct?
you need to either put 90 degree terminals and boots on the wires that are getting fried, get a universal wire set with 90 degree boots and route them where you want them, or get a custom fit plug wire set for a 90's pickup with the 305 or 350.. these route the wires along the valve cover rail and go to the spark plugs from the top. your heads should have a 1/4-20 tapped hole in between the outer pairs of spark plugs on each side: these holes can be used with stock plug wire dividers from a 90's truck that you find in the junkyard..
i got an MSD Streetfire universal plug wire set for my Camaro last summer at Advance Auto for about $45, and routed them over the center of the valve covers and down to the plugs. i made looms out of zip ties to hold them in place and make it easy to pull all the wires off the plugs and pull the whole works out with the cap if i need to, i can unhook them from the plugs and snap them back on even if my Hedman long tube headers are hot..

I put my wires under the headers, down the back of the engine, angled boots. Plenty of clearance with this.

Re: My Edelbrock headers keep burning my spark plug wires
this is how spark plug wires should be routed past the header tubes on a small block.. i've never burnt a boot in over 25 years of playing with cars doing it like this. it's similar to how GM did it in the 70's, then again in the 90's.. if you don't like the wires over the valve covers (i put them like that because they are easy to remove as a unit if i need to take the distributor cap off and there is no thinking involved in putting the wires back in the right place when it goes back together), you can get looms to run around the back of the valve covers if you want it to be cleaner: i recommend the 96-99 vortec truck 305 and 350 wire looms if going that route, but there are a number of aftermarket pieces from companies like Moroso, Accel, or Mr Gasket that do the same thing with a bit more bling if that's what you want...
this is the driver's side of my 97 Chevy truck:
the 88-95 TBI trucks used a couple of different similar setups..

I use these:
SPark Plug boot Protectors
Along with these wire separators for a center bolt.

Re: My Edelbrock headers keep burning my spark plug wires
Do you have the Edelbrock emissions headers with the air tubes? If so I know how hard it is to route the plug wires so they don't touch. A friend has those on his 89 GTA and he put those Flexible boots you linked on his car. It took about a year but one day the car started to have an intermittent misfire which we traced down to a couple of cylinders, When we pulled those fiber boots back 2 of the wires were baked and cracked to the core. They will buy you some time and probably prevent the wires from catching fire but they are not a solution. You need to get a custom wire set and reroute them so they don't touch.
