Fuel Tank insulators
GOT THE OLD TANK OUT.....
I need to get insulators/felt for the top of the tank and on the straps....
What are you guys using?
I was going to just buy a couple of bike inner tubes, cut and use them if i cant find any pre-mades or universals....
Let me know.....want to get this new tank IN!!

Re: Fuel Tank insulators
That would work... the original stuff looks kinda like roofing felt. It's not real high-tech in any case.

Re: Fuel Tank insulators
thank for all the help and suggestions.
I have came up with a pretty good solution....prob cost me about $15 , but not that bad i guess..
so, here is what i came up with:
yep...a Yoga mat. thin, dense, pretty strong. maybe my car will calm down with all the gremlins now that it is involved in Yoga..LOL
this is what i used to attach. 2 rolls was perfect:
very strong double sided tape. the width was perfect for the tank straps....exact same size!! i rolled out the tape, as well as cut the pad to size, rolled it up, then unrolled it onto the strap/tape to help be consistent
and not get it stuck where i did not want it.... patience...slow and steady wins the race (and keeps things neat and tidy)
i then did the tank in the same manner. The nice thing about the mat is the lines in the pattern helped make nice straight cuts!!
So....with that said, the Beast runs AGAIN!!*evil laugh* took a lil while cranking to get the fuel back up to the engine, but it fired right up once it did!
And yes, i replaced the fuel filter as well....cause that crap gas that smelled like paint thinner, assuredly ruined that as well.
Non-ethanol and high octane from here on out!!
So now i just have to put it all back together...but hey, ain't that what holiday weekends and beer are for?!?!?
Thanks again for all the suggestions , and i hope this thread will help some others that had my question....

Re: Fuel Tank insulators
Did you find a source for the replacement supply flex line between the tank sender and the body fuel line?

Re: Fuel Tank insulators
mine was in pretty good shape....so was not looking for one.
i would think that would be a GM part that could be found at a dealership parts counter....

Re: Fuel Tank insulators
a search shows that it's not available new and the flare fittings are fairly unique...
you apparently got lucky with your existing one.
I am considering a swap to the FI driver's side fuel lines and FI sender but the unavailability of that piece may make retaining the carb sender a better option.
thanks
