timing issue?!?

Engine: 350 tpi, 305 tbi
Transmission: 700R4,T5
Axle/Gears: G92
timing issue?!?

what is the stock base timing for a 92 z28 and what do I have to disconnect before I do this and where is it located? need to know as soon as possible! thanks

it is a single tan colored wire located near the blower motor on the passenger side of the eingine and the proper stock timing is 8 or 10 but while you have the EST wire disconnected it should be set at 6

Is it out In the open and easily seen or is it in a wiring harness hidden well? Hopefully I can find it and set the timing correctly

it should be a single tan wire connector should be relatively easy to see and reach disconnect it after letting the car run to get the operating temp then set timing to 6 while the wire is disconnected turn the car off and reconnect the wire it should be set perfect then the timing may jump from 6 to 8 but that is not a bad thing

dont like asking this but what is BDTC mean? also the negine was originally a TPI engine but i converted it back to MPFI using the intake and fuelrail off my 86. is the 6 above or bellow?

The 6 is to the left of the zero
the est wire comes out of the wire loom somewhere between the a/c unit and the distributor, its a tan wire with a black weatherpac connector on it.

Stock timing is 6 degrees BTDC. You will need a distributor wrench for this first of all. Moving the coil and egr solenoid makes this an easier chore. First, remove coil and egr solenoid if needed. Loosen distributor hold down bolt. It's a 9/16. Put your coil and egr solenoid back in place. Unplug the EST. Hook up your timing light and start vehicle. Set timing to 6* BTDC. Turn off ignition. Remove coil and starter solenoid again. Tighten down distr. bolt, plug in est, Hook up your coil and starter solenoid again. Disconnect battery for 30 seconds. Reconnect battery and drive it. Car will usually run poorly until computer relearns driving habits, don't panic.LOL Listen for pinging

First of all 0 degrees is the biggest dip, the center of a "v". the next one above it is 6 degrees.

It is to the left if your in front, facing the vehicle.

Evilemokid94, BTDC means before top dead center. Top dead center is the zero mark.

I do it with a zippo sometimes, works great!

But, in actuality, yes, you need a timing light. You will not be able to get it set correctly without one.

i got it, didnt need the light :], just adjusted the dizzy with it running, now it runs great!! idles fixed!!

You may have got it to idle correctly, I'll almost guarantee you its still timed incorrectly though.

Thats like saying you tuned a carb correctly by making it idle correctly...
