It will "work", but it won't last. It will be easier finding a 3rd gen V8 T5 then trying to use a 4th gen V6 T5.

Thanks!
I only need it for 6 months until I recoup some of the money from building my 350. Then I plan on going with a Tremec 3550 or T56.
I found this one for $200 and he is giving me a 90 day guarantee on it. I guess I will just have to baby it for a while...
Again, thanks for the info!

i BELIEVE that the 96+ V6 T5 trannies used on the 3.8 were actually the same as the V8 3rd gen trannies
i'm not 100% sure, but i think you can use it with out a problem because i think they both used the 26 spline input shaft where as the V6 3rd gen T5 used a weaker 14 spline input shaft

Well, I got it, slid it in and everything matches up..... EXCEPT the case for the V6 T5 has a lot large mounting hole pattern. I could not even have the Bellhousing drilled out for them.
So, it does not work. I just ordered the countershaft and input shaft and am rebuiling mine. I will let you know how it goes.

what did not match up?
if the bellhousing to trans bolts did not match up, you could have bought a trans plate adapter to use the buick style bellhousing with your chevy block
since the bellhousing to engine bolts are incorrect (they should be incorrect), all you should theoretically need to do is swap bellhousings...................

Where do you get the adapter plate?
I have finished rebuilding my trannie though. I bought the video from Hanlon Motorsports and ordered my parts. Transmission is in and working great. No more turbo sounds....

The Bellhousing from the car it came out of was one for the Lift off type clutch that they use in the T56's now, so it wouldn't work.
And the older V6 and v8 style bellhousings would not match up to the bolt pattern either.
The only thing I could have done, and I thought about doing it, was gut the V6 trannie for the pieces I needed for my old case. But I was able to buy the pieces I needed for the same price I payed for the used transmission, so I decided to go with a fresh rebuild.

your 96 v6 t5 will might not work because it has less teeth on spline (14 teeth) unless if you want make custem clutch

1996-2002 3.8 V6's received a 26 spline input shaft (because they did not offer the manual trans with the 3.8 in 95)
1993-1995 3.4's received the 14 spline input shaft

Re: 96 V6 T5 into 90 V8
I just got a 1996 V6 T5. Not sure if I'm going to buy it from my buddy. It appears the bolt pattern on this t5 differs from 3rd gen V6 T5's and V8 T5's. Apparently, it has a Ford bolt pattern. So I'm not sure how I'm going to mate a ford bolt pattern up to the back of a 350. It is a 26 spline input/ 27 spline output. Internal slave.

Re: 96 V6 T5 into 90 V8
False. I have a T5 from a '94 Camaro 3.4L, it is 26-spline. The case needs the Ford-pattern bellhousing. The input bearing retainer is the 912-casted, and I'm trying to bolt mine behind the 3.8L V6 from a '96 Camaro. I have both the '94 and '96 bellhousings. The problem is the '96 used an aluminum tower to mount the HTOB, and it's difficult to find, new or used. The McLeod HTOB for GM T5s is needing a longer retainer. Not thread-jacking, just telling it like it is.
The thread may be old, but the technical details remain the same.

Just the input bearing retainer. Please PM me a price.
