T56 swap

Im putting the t56 in my iroc soon and was wondering if anyone would know where to get a flywheel for a 2 piece rear main, summit has one but its 500+ or could i use my t5 flywheel with the 4th gen clutch? Please help!

Before you start, do a bunch of research you will find the flywheel is not your only problem.
But no, you can't use a T-5 model

I know what it consists of, thats the only snag i have is the flywheel. I have everything else to do it just cant find a flywheel for a 2 piece rear main that can be used with a 4th gen clutch

There is no such thing, except a specifically designed aftermarket "swap" piece.

With an aftermarket bell housing and some other clutch actuation system, your choices are considerably expanded; but that's usually more $$$ than the swapper flywheel.

I have a T5 flywheel behind a 1995 T56. It requires modification to the transmission, bellhousing, and clutch release that you're not prepared to do.

My advice for you is to just buy the $ 500.00 flywheel.

I used the fidanza aluminum flywheel. It was for a neutral balanced 2 piece rear main. It works perfect in my car and worked with a 4th gen clutch. I did buy longer arp pressure plate bolts so they grabbed more into the aluminum flywheel.

I paid 350 new for mine on sale.

Thank you for the list! American power train has one for $450 i would prefer the fidanza though would you know if it would use an 11 inch clutch? Centerforce and american power train are the only ones that specify that they use the 11 inch clutch and they are over 30 pounds

Any Valeo pull clutch for 93-97 F-body is an 11" disc.

I mean the flywheel, im having trouble finding one for a 2 piece rear main that uses an 11 inch clutch all that i am finding use 10.4-10.5 inch

AFAIK all the aftermarket flywheels use the stock size LT1 clutch, whatever that is. Doesn't too much matter once you reach that point... either you can bolt it up, or you can't.

There are several part numbers posted. The only trouble in finding one is there are so many tempting cheaper examples of flywheels that are not what you need.

If you found a flywheel indicating it's 153 tooth Chevrolet 2pc RMS for 10.5" clutch, then you found a T5 flywheel.

You need a conversion 93-97 T56 flywheel for 2pc RMS. Several part numbers have been posted. If it's for 93-97 T56, the clutch size is 11".

Post links and we can confirm. Or, be daring and call the mfgr.

It's also possible for a 383 to be balanced like a 350 or balanced like a 400.

You'll need to buy based on which yours is.

I found 2 of them one is centerforce made for the conversion its $584 and its steel at 30 lb. American power train has the same thing, steel at $450. I would like an aluminum one but it does not seem to exist

Fidanza does a fair amount of aluminum.

You might have to make a phone call. Not everything is readily listed on the internet.

I did, i called fidanza they said all they have available is the 10.5" but its listing says to bolt f body 6 speed to 2 piece rear main engine i called because it doesnt say what clutch size and they told me its not what im looking for its not for 11" clutch

I can see why you might be frustrated

If they say it's for 2pc to 93-97 T56, I'd risk it. Just get the balance right.

The bolt pattern for the pressure plate is the same. So they may believe it's a 10.5" disc like a T5. However,

My fidanza worked with a stage 3 clutch I bought for a 93-97 camaro off ebay. So any lt1 clutch kit should work since they basically all use the same pressure plate.

No way I was putting a 30lb flywheel on when a stock steel t5 is like 15-16lbs I think

pressure plate bolts... stock lt1 only grab the flywheel by a few threads which isn't good in aluminum.. I bought and used these. I had to cut off around a 1/4 so they wouldn't bottom out in the flywheel. Sucks you have to buy 2 packs to get 6 bolts. I also weighed each one after cutting them to make them way exactly the same weight

Do you have a part number for that flywheel? And what do you think of a 6 puck disk, i was looking at a stage 3 6puck clutch kit by the same brand on ebay

i found a flywheel finialy, spec makes it i called them they varified that its for the swap 2 piece rear main lt1 pull style 11" clutch best of all its aluminum its 13.5 pounds part number is sc66a and $465 i am definately buying those arp bolts to go with it

Is where I bought my fidanza from... Showed up in less then a week.

Fidanza 198661 is what I used. Which worked with everything for the lt1 clutch


As for a 6 puck I couldn't really tell you. I never used one. I would be worried about chatter. My dual friction clutch chattered some for the first 500 miles or so. It has gotten better

Ok cool, that will save me 100 bucks, i have a stage 3 6puck in my car now with my t5 its not bad, i may go with the dule friction when i put the t56, im not sure yet

Glad to help out. I did hours and hours of research. Also you can keep the 3rd gen pedals and master if you use like a 1988 cavalier slave. It is larger in diameter at 1.25 and keep from over extending the pressure plate.

Also what crossmember you going to use. I had to make up my own because of long tubes with 3 inch y and I wanted torque arm off the trans.

How I made mine... Maybe will give you ideas

Hawks third gen has basicly the same thing made for long tubes for $120 on ebay, i may make my own, i like that design and it looks great i have shortys on mine now and i made my whole exhaust system free flowing no restrictions it sounds good too, got 2.5" from the headers back in to 18" long 3.5" angle cut tips so you see no pipe comming out of the back just tips im pretty proud of it lol next time im under my car ill put some pics up

Very nice, I don't like seeing exhaust tips on camaros with the ground effects. Mine are tucked where you can not see them either. My setup is 3 inch homemade y pipe back to an adjustable borla 4th gen setup muffler set up i picked up for 50 bucks. Where the plate goes for the other tail pipe I have a qtp cutout so basically straight 3inch pipe when its open.

Personal prefrences lol mines all straight pipe i made my own y pipe also, no muffler, i got a 1992 crate 350 with a mild cam in it im not sure what it is but it has a nice lump to it, i think it sounds pretty good. I got a 383 stroker im puttin in either over the winter or in early spring, plan on having the t56 in soon er then that though lol thank you for all the info
