TKO 500 question
OK I've read all the post's about the TKO 500 got a question before i embark down this path.
Why can't you use the stock bell housing and clutch?
I have a 85 IROC with a L-31 350 TPI and I converted it from the 700r to a WC-T5 and it has 3:42 gears.
I also replaced the stock ECM to a FAST unit.

Re: TKO 500 question
With the proper too you can use the factory clutch and bellhousing. Just need the spacer adapter for the bellhousibg to trans. Helps with shifter location as well

Re: TKO 500 question
The spacer for the stock bellhousing allows the tko sit in a straight up position, whereas the factory t5 sits at a angle to the driver side about 17degrees.
It also moves the trans back 1" which helps with shifter fitment because without it the stick usually ends up under the ashtyay.
Like mentioned before, call fortes parts connection, he will set you up with everything you need. They are good people.
And get a tko600, the tko500 has a pretty low first gear and is more suited for trucks or a car with very high (numerically low) rear gears

Re: TKO 500 question
Use the tko600
I have 3:70 gears and a tko600 and I would not want first any lower, your should be pretty ideal.

Re: TKO 500 question
I like OD, so I would probably go for a 2.87 / 0.64 TKO 600.
You might find a little more rear gear preferable, like 3.55 to 3.90, depending on what you like.
As far as bellhousings and clutches, determine if you're going to stick with the external slave / fork of the 84-92 third gen. If you're changing to a hydraulic throwout bearing, your options on bellhousings (and skipping the adapter plate) broaden.
